Can we sum this up by saying- YOUR DRIBBLE DOESN'T STOP UNTIL YOU GATHER THE BALL? This is consistent with the way traveling is called today- the two steps aren't counted until after the gather. In the same way, your shot doesn't start until after the gather. Any upward motion after the gather is a shot. (Cunningham is fouled at the same time as his gather, therefore before his shot.)

I never understood why coaches want to intentionally foul when your up by 3 with less than 10 sec. Its better to just play good defense and play 5-out defense.

Great breakdown, I would say you could argue that situation wouldn’t be a take foul situation.
They have the lead, like you said it’s a good strategy to foul in that situation they don’t HAVE to in order to get possession back. They don’t try to foul him right away in order to get a chance at getting the ball back.
I wouldn’t consider this a take foul situation, open to debate..

The Take foul part of this rule is ridiculous and not necessary. If you wanna foul at any point in time and not have it be called a shooting foul…you have to make sure you foul before they gather the ball into a shot. Its gotta be a clear "on the floor, before the shot" foul, so in tis instance, before the ball settles in his hand at the latest. Way too much fuzzy interpretation required.
There's always somebody who can't play but wanna Talk like they know something,. Man STFU not only was it a shooting foul.. but there was multiple missed calls in that game (hack fest) maybe cause of that female ref, who you put so much faith in.

The problems are 1) Cunningham wasn't in a shooting motion when he was fouled. 2) Tony Brothers was 45 feet away overruling the referee who was a feet away.
