It makes no sense that non-nationals can play for a country just because they were given passports, while people who actually have real ties to that country cannot play simply because they didnโt secure a passport before age 16. This rule ends up being unfair and easy to take advantage of, allowing teams to field players with no real connection to the country they represent. It defeats the purpose of having national teams in the first place. Where is the pride in that? Come on, FIBA! Be fair and stop accepting bribes from these countries. Itโs disgusting tbh!
