SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Malik Monk scored 21 points, had 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in the Sacramento Kings 115-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 30 at Golden 1 Center. He also contributed two blocks and two steals while playing 34 minutes off the bench.

Howbeit, Monk made it known that it was a defensive personnel unit of himself, Keon Ellis, Nique Clifford, Precious Achiuwa, and Maxime Raynaud that went on a 14-2 run to end the opening quarter and give the Kings a 4-point lead over Grizzlies’ lead to start the 2nd frame.

That unit was never seen again together in the game, but showed a glimpse of what a youth movement, plus-Monk, would look like if it was frequently implemented.

The assignment was to do everything the Kings’ coaching staff have been dictating them to do through 21 games.

“There are a lot of vets in here. DC (Kings head coach Dough Christie) can’t play everybody,” Monk said. “But yeah, when the group gets in, they brought us back a little bit, we run, play defense, share the ball like Kings suppose to.”
