Everybody going with the flow. A few years from now a coach would go back to running pick and rolls because every team’s defensive scheme is built to stop isolations. The new fans would appreciate the pick and roll once again. A play that if run to perfection is near unstoppable.
The very tactic why the Greeks upset the US team in Saitama.
1:10 it's pretty silly to compare players who played under radically different rules in different eras, unless you apply this test: how much better was a player than his contemporaries. in other words, how much did he stand out. also. the illegal defense ruined pro basketball. it was ugly, slow, mechanistic and unwatchable. the related zone defense rule was equally bad. not sure they thought shi thru. but then after seeing the results of the rule why didnt they trash it after yr 1 🙄 i guess it's the classic case of not wanting to admit a mistake. but dm th longer you cling to a mistake the more clueless you look. basketball looks best, much like in the beautiful game (world football), when th ball moves swiftly and players move judiciously & strategically.
Thank you for not taking gambling sponsorships
As a Christian, thank you for calling out bad behavior from people who do not represent Christianity. Those actions are not what Christ preached and should be shunned upon.
Kudos to you Ben. I was expecting a video about this seasons Heat offense but didn't account how important your previous video about how horizontal the modern NBA offense is serves as a prologue. Take away the obvious superstars with vertical abilities (superb vertical shooting or scoring above the rim) and the NBA has many more players who can execute this modern full court offense. You are right that the players attacking with the dribble are doing so even 10~15 feet beyond the 3 point line (making use of all that space). But the Heat try get it their strong players with handles who get their mismatch and do so while the defending big or help defender is out of the paint. Heat have enough of those type of guys with handles to drive with more space and finish strong under the rim. As you noted the operation is just very fast and decisive.
Spoelstra is always a step ahead of the rest of the league
This is basically a run and gun offense
That screen and pop for Rip was fucking beautiful hahahaha wow
You need to do a retrospective on how you emotional fucking morons shat on Toronto for the past two years and now they're second in the east. Feel free to do flashbacks to Detroit after their losing streak. I dunno how you guys ever get hungry when you're really that full of yourselves… or each other.
A few comments on this.
1. You gotta have 5 players on offense who are comfortable slashing or shooting 3s. So in someways it’s a versatility evolution too.
2. System is entirely dependent on being able to create those advantages via the slash game primarily.
3. The pace of the ball movement assists with number 2, as the read and react decisiveness helps create those advantages.
Run&Gun Offense with suffocating full-court pressure. It fits the Heat. Imagine doing this style during the Heatles era.
As a youth coach, I don't know how I feel about this trend since it emphasizes both the thing that I've tried to stomp out among young ballhandlers (going one on one without an action to initiate) and the team ball concepts that I've tried to instill instead (attack advantages, bend the defense and react, secondary cuts). I do love that this fits Pelle's game perfectly though.
The Heat got so many Weapons they will be dangerous
Many ask me why I’m a Heat fan. Sometimes I can’t even put it into words man ERIC and Riley just have the best system in the nba
The best and how the players have to work hard to play especially the youngsters love it
can someone tell me how teams are now scheming against them these last 2 games?
a channel called "Thinking Basketball" and not a single in depth video on Rajon Rondo?
NBA should get rid of the defensive 3 second rule. It's weak
Excellent video. Norman Powell for the Heat has been playing with the groin injury. He’s been slowed down, but now Tyler Herro came back from injury time out and he’s been great and it’s working still. Although they slowed paced a bit because teams are playing constant 2-3 zones on them
Wow, GREAT BREAKDOWN.
This video is just Davion Mitchell getting buckets
5 Out has been ran by top colleges for years
organized chaos
The Golden State Warriors during their peak championship years did not emphasize the ball screen particularly during the regular season. They were well ahead of this trend being discussed. More interesting than the Miami Heat.
The criticism of the league today is that it is boring because guys are just chucking up threes. The irony to this argument is that guys are shooting more difficult shots and making more shots overall. Thank you for highlighting the gameplay evolves over decades!
I wonder what happens when defenses adjust to this. Without the screen, you can have centers now because they don't get targeted with pick and roll. Still tricky because the guy the center defending will move around the perimeter as the strong side shifts. But you can do a 1-4 zone here where you have a guy handling the ball handler then you can have 4 guys watching the ball more because they know how the other guys rotate around when the ball shifts sides. Still not easy but I feel like if defenses get enough reps, they can get into the rhythm of defending this. The next step of this offense is bring screens back but off the ball so that 4 guys will not ball watch. You can do floppy actions or elevator plays to free a guy so that when he gets the pass, he's downhill and there's already a defender falling behind. But you need to mesh those actions well into the rules of this new offense so the spacing is not compromised.

Please don’t call NBA champions world champions. Thanks
💎 nice!! Dope content!!
Very interesting! The heat are also doing something interesting defensively this year. They let their opponents shoot the most 3s by far. However, their opponents also have the loss 3P%. I still haven't figured out how they do it. Do they leave bad shooters open consistently, or are they especially good at contesting late (when players have already committed to shooting)? I would be interested in an analysis of it.
amazing video!
Reminds me of Coach Daniel's video about St. Joseph's College of Maine and their no-screen, motion-heavy offense.
