Raptors end LeBron’s streak, but waste Scottie masterclass on hero ball again | Postgame Live

The Toronto Raptors beat the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday, but they’ll face a mountain of a task against the Lakers (first leg of a back-to-back) on their second game of a five-game-home-stand. The Raptors will be without RJ Barrett, Ochai Agbaji and Jakob Poeltl, while the Lakers will be without Marcus Smart and Luka Doncic, the latter of which is out for the birth of his second child.

LeBron is back and in full effect, but the Lakers have struggled to guard with him in transition, giving up a blistering 124 defensive rating with the former MVP on the floor. However, it’s worth noting that among the 29 teams in the NBA, LeBron has averaged his most points per game against the Raptors.

Luckily for Toronto, Scottie Barnes seems to live for head-to-heads vs. LeBron, averaging 26/9/6 against LeBron. Not so luckily, he’s 1-2 in those matchups.

The Raptors need their bench and Brandon Ingram to work hard, they’ll need a lot from CMB and Scottie on the glass, especially matching up against Hayes and Ayton up front, and they’ll need to find a solution for one of the NBA’s top players this season, Austin Reaves.

  1. I'm glad I found this channel; Raptors media coverage is so whitewashed; they're all afraid to offend and lose their press passes and sponsorships that they don't speak from the heart. Your ability to go off the cuff, unfiltered for three hours is very impressive.

  2. I’m glad you mentioned balance instantly after the ā€œunathletic white guyā€ stuff because i feel like ppl sometimes forget athleticism isn’t just your straight line speed and how high you jump. like your balance and body control, your hand/foot eye coordination, your reaction time and how fast you process things in your brain, your ability to change directions quickly. these are all very important and separate a lot of guys who think they can succeed off of just being a strong guy who can jump high and run fast.

Like i think a lot of people think Giannis is just a tall guy who is strong and fast but they don’t understand how fast he can process everything, how quickly he can go from slow to fast for his size and how coordinated he is combined with his core strength to not be knocked off balance by everything. Luka has insane balance and coordination, and it is super hard to be able to make some of the circus shot ā€œand 1sā€ he makes that genuinely no one else does as much as him. he just can’t jump high and that’s okay LOL

  3. Recruiter dude was kind of getting cooked for his take on Austin Reaves but I kind of agree with the sentiment. We always hear about how these foul baiters are so skilled and smart, but fouls should be a way to punish players for BS defense. They should not be a way to facilitate BS offense, and I think everyone knows it deep down. AR gave belt regardless of free throws, but there was Deni Avdija's playstyle in that portland game which was definitely kind of nasty, because he knew all he had to do was just run into people and he was gonna get calls. It just hits extra hard here in raptor land because Scottie really lacks that foul baiting skill

  4. Bottom line the team can not sustain games without Jakob. AR walked into 2 3s because mamu didn’t get up on the 3 point line. The defense is bad without Jakob because there is No Rim protection and it puts to much strain on Scottie. I don’t expect anything from this team when they are down 2 starters. Not good enough overall to win down 2 starters.

  5. Raptors should of played Jakob poelt for Lakers game since Lakers are better then Charlotte in this back 2 back. Since poeltl is averaging 26 minutes per game 22 minutes per game poeltl would be more available for more games.

  6. "AG", Loss is unnacceptable. Why such Diva about it? Live and die by regular season wins and losses of freshly rebuilt team. I didn't love the game either but getting all sassy like that is embarrassing. Maybe if we were two time champions and had two healthy Centers while all our players were in our Prime? Sure, get all sassy.. if not you just look soft

  7. Yeah I don't care if Ingram takes the last shot but the ball should in Scotties hands to make decisions

  8. I only caught the last play of this game live (will watch it later) and it certainly was a disappointment, but only a mild one to me. Then I tuned in to your postgame show. As ever, I appreciate your analysis and insights. But I'm always amazed at how upset people get. This is an entertainment product. Were you not entertained!? Sure, it's frustrating to lose a close game in that fashion. Isn't it part of the journey, though? I think the team is at the "learn how to win" stage of its development, as Darko has talked about. We were all seduced by that magical winning streak, and it sure was fun while it lasted, but did we really expect the Raptors to go from rebuild to top of the east in a quarter of a season? They are obviously still a work in progress. They are still trying to gel. I have to believe that the coaching staff and front office see everything that fans and pundits see and much more besides, that they know way more about basketball (both the sport itself and the business of the NBA) than most fans ever will, that they are collecting data and figuring out solutions but not rushing big decisions, that they are working to find and maintain the delicate balance of egos, play styles, development, etc. The team is on an upward trajectory, but it's going to be a roller coaster; let's just enjoy the ride. And by the way… I am well aware of the new meaning of "Karen," and it's pretty annoying to someone who has had that name since birth. Sorry if I'm being a Karen about it. šŸ˜‰

  9. The playoffs will expose inconsistencies and force the organization to build correctly around Scottie. Scottie will also have a better idea of what to work on his game to succeed in the post season. His teammates will also realize that they're bullshitting on the court.

  10. Scottie didn't struggle to play with Pascal. They had synergy & Pascal is a better all.around player than BI. He would have never held on to the ball doing isos for so many possessions despite him being more accomplished than SB. Bi is wired to score & that is a habit he needs to unlearn if he wants to impact wins.

  11. Austin Reaves got away with a flopping & foul baiting and he only got some of those calls b/c he is in a Laker uniform. People talk about foul baiting with Shai but Deni & Reaves are the worst.

  12. Darko should have sib Mamu out for CMB when he made that terrible decision to drive instead of taking the open 3 or pass resulting in an offensive fl. He also failed to hold on to a defensive rebound in 2 previous possession. CMB played well enough to finish the gm.

  13. Missing Yak sure feels like a scheduled loss every time he is out and the other team is even half way decent, which is sad because I really wanted this one and they were so close!

I always say AR looks a bit like some average suburban fan made themselves in 2K or something haha, but wow he’s always more than low key impressed me and now he’s taken it to a whole other level.

Great game from Scottie again. Sad to see it wasted, but at least the streak is dead.
