Anthony Davis to the Raptors? | Toronto’s Front Office have LOST THEIR MINDS

Anthony Davis to the Raptors? | Toronto’s Front Office have LOST THEIR MINDS

The Toronto Raptors are 15-11, losers of 7 of their last 8. This is not the time to make panicked win-now trades for past-their-prime veterans, but the Raptors have dug themselves into a pretty major hole and Anthony Davis might present them with a high risk bet to get themselves out of a lot of their existing roster problems.

  1. Great live Rob. AD will hurt this team. Better trade options and cheaper like a Gafford us much better. Also yesterday Poetl took the worst angles on his closeouts. And Gradey needs to go or G League. He is hurting this team. He cant shoot, cant defend and cant even drive. He falls and he does weird layups thar never work. Get him out of here plz

  2. I’ve got pubes older than RJ Barrett. And AD kills the Raptors every single time he plays us. Take that for what it’s worth!

  3. It was abvious even before Chomche was dropped that the Raptors needed another big. It was also obvious when the Raptors were winning against teams with key players missing. Clearly it was not obvious to most Raptors fans . No matter what they do they are not going t0 be a contender this year. Hopefully someone in Raptors management is listening to Pensare Basketball podcasts and hire you Rob, before another panic move is made and it ruins the bright future of the present roster, once some intelligent moves are made.

  4. Fire Darko and his coaching stuff. Look at young guys they are not improving they are even worst then thier rookie season.

  5. This a April fools? Anthony Davis? Too old, expensive and always injured.. fire the front office if this is true.. ASAP!!

  6. If they do this trade, ill stop watching bc he will never see the court, he'll be in street clothes on the bench making millions. He's a BUM

  7. If AD gets us OFF Jak and IQs contract I'm all for it.

But I'm not down to give up more than one 1st for AD.

Hes been just as available as Poeltl over the past couple of years. So the injury talk is kinda silly. I'll take injury prone AD over IQ + injury issue Poeltl

  8. AD is better suited for the Hawks. They can trade their injured Trae Young + filler for injured AD. We don't need him in Toronto!

  9. The trade at the end would certainly be a statement about Yak and IQ (!). I do like that it comes with a back up centre.

I see the ideas of the Raptors' FO with Gradey, but looking more like I'm going to have to hold the 'L' believing it would work out. I think that in general the Raptors like to place a lot of bets on upsides, or players working better in Toronto then previous teams, rehabing value and working around injuries, ect.. AD feels like he would be the biggest gamble yet.. here's to hoping that doesn't mean they actually do it.

  10. Would you do this trade IQ and RJ , first rounder for James harden and zubac? This trade adds offense and defense.

  11. For everyone who don't want AD..Since 2023 Jakob Poeltl has played 125 games, AD has played 137 games..pounder that in your head.
I was so against trading for Poeltl, I was against giving him extension and now we're stuck with him..unless we put him in pkg for AD. Honestly do I want AD, No..but..we had Kawli and best medical staff, so I am šŸ™to see AD play 80 percent if his here. I'm ok with him having load management. U guys have 2 understand his still top 10 player when healthy, just great talent.

  12. Maybe it was mentioned but Martin G League player of the week! I really like him great two way player just what we need

  13. Instead of trying to build a roster around a talented player, the front office has just put together a bunch of players with high ceilings but no synergy with each other. The roster construction is more of, "I hope this player blossoms so well that we can "out talent" opposing teams". I see there are players trying to fit but unfortunately if a player must try to fit then they are not playing to their natural strengths in which you might as well find a player who fits in that criteria.

Fit is not only about filling in weaknesses, but should also account for financial flexibility, availability, and what strengths are you giving up to achieve that fit. I hate how every star rumor we're put into is now considered "Our next Kawhi trade" when they keep failing to consider those 3 things there. Not only that, but the situation is different, the raptors post getting swept Lebron were at the peak of their competitive curve with little to room in trade improvement and there were rumors of DeRozan getting traded to the Clippers for their First Pick as Masai was looking into drafting Shai Gilgeous Alexander. It's not the same as now as the current raptors team is on a upward trajectory due to players still being young and learning how to play the game.

In terms of the trade itself, there was no way they were losing that Kawhi trade because Kawhi was a cheaper contract than DeRozan and they were getting Danny Green in addition. To add on, they were not giving up any strengths which in matter of fact they gained a lot of it with the ability to slide Ibaka to the back up center, additional spacing to the shooting guard position, more defense to the forward position, and better overall scoring.

The only real risk in the Kawhi trade was whether he would actually suit up. Once he agreed to play, the Raptors had effectively already won the trade. And even if they lost that year and Kawhi left, due to financial flexibility and not requiring to give up multiple picks for Kawhi, they had the choice to rebuild right after if they wanted. While that trade involved a lot of luck, that trade was only possible due to patience and not pulling trades like Serge Ibaka and a second rounder for Ryan Anderson to solve "Spacing" issues.

This AD trade simply just goes against financial flexibility, questionable availability, and strengths they would have to give up to achieve that deal. If this AD trade fails, are you in position to replace that level of talent if AD leaves/gets injured or are you able to rebuild after because you didn't give up much picks? Look how a seemingly random pick far in the future is haunting the Clippers now. There is no reason to cut down the upwards trajectory of this team for a 2 year window unless Scottie confirms he is going to leave if they don't win now.

Looking for another star player is simply the wrong view to fix this team. There are teams with to much role players in which they need to trade for a star to lead them, and there is a team with to much stars/good players who need fitting role players to cover weaknesses/or make life easier for the best players of this team. The starting players surrounding Scottie & Ingram simply either don't space the floor for them and take the ball out of their hands. And if you take the ball out of their hands while not producing, you better be showing up on the defensive end.

Ill admit Scottie did not have a good game against the Knicks, but with OG, the rotational help defense, and Jakob Poeltl clogging lanes, Scottie is simply unable to play to his strengths with his driving lanes clogged. I guarantee you put the same team about Giannis everyone will complain how the Bucks have failed to build around Giannis. For evidence, they shot 11/28 that game, 28% from 3 while the Knicks shot 44%. Scotties best strength is his ability to see the floor, ability to drive down hill, being a phenomenal help defender. But with IQ trying to be this teams playmaker and the lack of point of attack defenders on this team in which Scottie is forced to guard players outside, how can you expect Scottie to be a 28/8/10 player when he is not put in the position to do so. Even Giannis isn't asked to guard the perimeter like that. I could say the same for BI. Yes shot diets been bad as of late but lack of spacing for cleaner offensive looks while being asked to do more on the defensive end, just to have certain players chucking terrible shots or missing under the rim, how could I pass up the ball when it's a 6'6 player contesting my jump shot.

It's either you give these guys a team that allows them for 1 on 1 mismatches without worrying about the help defense or you give them the team that actually encourages them to pass because the players surrounding them is able to punish teams for overcommitting against BI & Barnes. That's what made RJ effective before the injury because his ability to hit threes at a decent clip lately and off ball cutting prevents/punishes teams for overcommitting. For whatever reason it's been more of IQ initiating the offense, Barnes in the corner/setting screens, then Poeltl respectfully bricking under the rim. If you're going to clog the other side of my lane then atleast finish under the rim brother.

We have seen what it was like for Giannis when we put a ball dominant guard with him in which he is forced to set screens. He isn't a player who can dominate waiting for the ball. His best strength is creating a runway for him then giving him shooters to pass to incase help defense block his runway. I believe same is for Barnes

Finally, say you trade for AD, can you confidently say Jakobe & Shead are ready to start on a playoff team? Im very high on these players but as backups for now. If you were willing to get Jakob Poeltl for Fred Vanvleet, then you can flip a few negative young players on this team for older players that fit around Scottie and BI. I honestly could add a lot more but this is to long

  14. with his injury history, no 1st rd picks should be included. he is a very high risk asset, long past his prime and over paid by about $15m/year. all that said, i don't want him on this team in the slightest.

  15. Wondering what your thoughts are on the Panel discussing Scottie after his worst game of the season. Interesting that they did it in your absence. Some very… interesting takes there.

  16. Jake’s contract wouldn’t be a concern, as the center starter will be pure league currency at mid season every year. There will be always contenders’s center with healthy problem. They must trade a center before deadline. Jak just needs play well in January, he will worth 1st round.
