Do the Mavs NEED to give AD & Kyrie a chance?
I don't think they keep it together with AD and Kyrie but if they do it's gonna blow up in their faces. People are gonna be switching up their stance really quick when the thunder dog walk this team in the playoffs. Personally I doubt AD makes it that long and I doubt Kyrie comes back 100% from one of the worst injuries in sports but who knows. That's the thing with AD it is gambling on a very unhealthy and historically inconsistent player at the age of 33 with several glaring injuries but mostly achilles bilateral tendinopathy which only gets worse with time and playing basketball. It's gonna be funny when the reality of an aging injury prone center who can't play earning a very untradeable 70 million finally sets in and it hits like a truck. I say keep AD and Kyrie together because it seems like that's what everyone wants. I have 0 reason to keep them together and there's no logic behind it because we are 100% not gonna win even at full health. My main reason it because I just don't wanna hear people saying "what if" forever. They say the worst place you can be in the NBA is where you aren't contending and aren't rebuilding so let's go there!! Keep them together! Go Mavs!!!

You aren't winning the championship this year but every playoff series you're in will be valuable for the future. Win as many as possible and go as far as possible in the playoffs. JUST PLAY THE DAMN SEASON. look, everything thats going on right now is because of actions of a former executive that is no longer here. dont force a different path, just play this season out. be on the deciding end of trade offers not the offering end, WHY? we are in no rush. get the draft pick that you naturally land on, WHY? we have the most recent number 1 overall pick, think about building off that before you decide its not enough, NOT EVEN HALF A SEASON IN. lastly, young movement, core movement, win now, whatever the plan is, KEEP KYRIE.

Give me another Center who can block shots and give you easily 3-5 offensive rebounds in 25 minutes. That's Lively. If Lively is completely healthy and this foot injury does not end his career you can do a contract similar to Jonathan Isaac in Orlando with injury clauses and guaranteed money for games played. It would not be a problem to extend him in RFA in 1,5 years for 4 years 40-50 million.
Regarding tanking, give me the alternative! OKC will win the titel at least 2 more times in the next 4 years. Even with Kai and AD you would not be able to win a 7 game series. In 4-5 years we have Coop + some young talents. The 2026 Draft is perfect to tank. Especially Top 5.

Most are top 15. There is no way to plan to get someone like Jokic, Middleton, or Green so late in the draft. It can happen, but, for it to happen, pretty much everyone has to get a player wrong, with you being the one to get it slightly less wrong (their teams would have taken them earlier if they had known…). It's basically luck.
The Mavs will probably not have a pick in 2027 (top-2 protected). They'll have a prime Luka Laker's pick in 2029 and be swapping with great teams after that. They might not pick higher than the low to mid-20s until 2031.
Which means, unless they get more draft capital via trades, they won't be drafting a co-star without luck. You can't expect luck, as then it isn't luck (by definition), so if they don't do it this year, and don't do well trading for high-end picks (so not lottery protected trash), the expectation should be they won't be drafting a co-star for Flagg.
Well, of course, there is always Nemby. I'd love for him to be the guy, and I love his game, but, given the defensive concerns at his height, I have my doubts.
The annoying thing about this is that we pretend almost like it’s a guarantee that we get in the lottery and find coops co star.
In reality the odds are LOW that you get that. The question that is not being asked is what happens if you draft a BUST if you decide to tank.

I absolutely would rather see if they have any chance over dumping AD for nothing and then wasting the rest of Kyrie's late prime. If we're trading AD, why not trade Kyrie? It's both or neither in my opinion. It's a gamble whatever we do, and the point should be either we go all-in on Coop's timeline (hard because we don't have picks and Lively is already down and out), or hold pat and see if this excellent defensive team comes together offensively with minor tweaks and Kyrie returning to health.

The NBA lottery odds are FLAT! There is very little advantage to tanking if you are not top 6 worst teams which they won’t be regardless of hard they tank going forward. Daryl Morey would NEVER trade AD at a discount and he got value out of disgruntled Harden. Just breathe and let it play out for 6 weeks. This trade AD at half value nonsense is exhausting.
