The defensive transformation of the Grizzlies continues in wins over the Clippers and Trail Blazers

The Grizzlies won home games against the Clippers and Trail Blazers over the weekend and in both games they held their opponent under 100 points. Since Zach Edey made his season debut on November 15, Memphis has the second best defensive rating in the NBA.

On this episode, the defensive transformation of the Grizzlies is discussed, along with huge recent contributions of the 2024 draft class, featuring Edey, Cam Spencer and Jaylen Wells.

Also covered- Cedric Coward went beast-mode against Kawhi Leonard, and Jaren Jackson Jr’s offense is missing.

  1. I don’t think people realize how much Ty Jerome and pippin and Clarke will elevate us. Then we know Ja and Jaren can’t play worse they can only get better.

  2. You say eddy may not be the best player maybe not but he just might be the most important he makes every one else better at everything gets them more open shots helps on d gets them more rebounds im not sure hes not the true mvp

  3. I think that with cedric we have 3 excellent post defenders with edey and jjj, its amazing how he picks up rebounds and block shots. And with jaylen we have an excellent perimeter defender. We just need ja to do other 50% of the game!!!

  4. I think TI is the opposite of the "Take that for Data" fiz vibe. Where, we need to see where this team is after the allstar break. It really feels like if Ja turns it around and players get healthy, that we have an 18 deep team. Hopefully OMax shoots better?

  5. Hoping that I’m wrong but I think there is going to be another adjustment period. If that’s true most of the fan base is not going to be patient.

Ja and Jaren having a new coach, no full off season and new leadership roles on the team has been a lot for them to navigate and the challenge in those adjustments are not ones we clearly get to see.

The biggest thing I’m looking for is before Ja’s injury both him and the team missed way too many open shots that should have been makes. That’s the start, much better percentages there.
