Knicks and Spurs Dominate NBA Cup Semifinals + Giannis Trade Talks Heat Up

Kevin O’Connor is joined by Amin Elhassan to recap the San Antonio Spurs ending the Oklahoma City Thunder’s winning streak in their electric NBA Cup semifinal victory. They break down Victor Wembanyama’s immediate defensive impact and the Spurs’ formula for success against OKC. Should the Spurs be aggressive with trades or stick with their young roster?

Next, the duo breaks down the keys to the New York Knicks’ NBA Cup semifinal win over the Orlando Magic. They discuss Jalen Brunson’s showstopping 40-piece, why Paolo Banchero isn’t fitting in with the Magic and whether Jamahl Mosley is the best fit for the Magic’s head coaching role. Are we overthinking the New York Knicks?

Plus, they give their final picks for who will win the NBA Cup Finals. Who does Wemby defend? Can KAT pull Wemby out of the paint? How will the NBA Cup MVP title impact the legacy of the greats?

Later, Chris Haynes joins the show, giving the latest news, including potential landing spots for Giannis, what moves the Warriors need to make and whether the Clippers should trade James Harden or Kawhi Leonard?

  1. 6:47 I appreciated Wemby’s honest elation as well. Choked me up a little honestly. As a Nuggets fan I get robot Jokic and spicy edgelord Jamal Murray soundbites. I think Jamal hates the media more than Donnie “The Diddler” Trump

  2. Got damn both these guys suck. Kevin is a giant bitch for talking smack about the spurs running 3 guards all preseason and now he’s switched up like he was with it all along. As far as the other dude I don’t know who he is, but he has dog shit takes too so I just tuned out. Yahoo is mediocre. Back to ignoring this channel. Go Spurs Go!!

  3. the discussion about tactical fouling is interesting because it show`s me how far removed i am as a coach from a spectator. for me changing this (giving 2 shots instead of allowing a three) would be plainly wrong. its fundamentally just part of the game!

  4. You insist that there are three leaders, this, that. While the three players are different, the coach understands this well. You have one who has been a true organizer since his early years, despite the fact that he is still very young. He is an excellent defender, a powerful attacker in the paint, who breaks through the defense and draws fouls. He needs to work on his shooting so he doesn't miss easy baskets and free throws, especially when you're playing OKC. You have another experienced player who plays the role of CP3 on the court, with great speed and good scoring ability, especially at key moments in the game. Finally, you have a third player who is excellent with the ball in both hands, but still a beginner. He has great fluidity that allows him to get around his opponents, but he still lacks consistency and, above all, muscle tone despite his youth, which he needs to work on. The two young players have not yet reached technical maturity, but are already strong. In summary, you have a stabilizing organizer and two explosive passers, with a more daring style of play, one with one hand and the other with both.

  5. I’d say it’s an exaggeration to say that they’re “getting hand on ball, not on wrist” every single time. Lots of no-calls on hacks in this game…

  6. I might not be fully understanding the suggestion for stopping teams fouling when up 3 at the end of games. In that game, Spurs were up by 2 with 25 seconds to go. Then the Thunder fouled the Spurs. In that scenario, wouldn't they also get 3 shots, then? So, then, they could go up 5 and essentially ice the game. Or would only the trailing team get 3 shots for intentional fouls? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Or would it only be when the spread is exactly 3 points? I don't follow how this would work.

  7. Mavs will be relocating to Vegas b/c of their Tribe owners wanting an arena-casino-hotel-convention center. Texas Legislature is not cooperating.

  8. Nice win…surprising, too. But one game does not mean Spurs can compete in a best of 5 or 7 series b/c they will be outcoached by the three teams they have beaten this season. Popovich screwed the franchise by hiring a limp-wristed Mitch Johnson to replace him.

Spurs & Thunder play 2 more times before the New Year…let's see what happens. DNPs – AGAIN – for two top defenders on the Spurs Sochan and Bryant, proves Limpy Mitch cannot manage lineups. Due to Wemby's greatness they Spurs have a better roster than OKC, Rockets or Nuggets. "Defense wins championships" and the Spurs will not go deep into the playoffs using 8 men and giving DNPs to their best defenders outside of Wemby. Hire Sean Sweeney as head coach.

  9. Wemby-Giannis-Champagnie-Castle-Harper are title contenders. Trade greedy Fox and over paid Vassell plus those Hawks picks for Giannis. Bucks need to start over so picks are what they need.

  10. Spurs should have won by more if half of those open 3s fell in that first quarter against their pack defense

  11. Spurs by 15+. Wemby's Kobe-esque competitive fire is Jordan-esque. He won't be on minutes restriction. That was a ruse.

  12. Bro, Amin, can you go back and watch the footage? Caruso was getting hand on forearm, not ball. Dort and Shai got clean blocks, but Caruso was out there committing capital crimes.

  13. 22:45 I don't agree AT ALL. Should have been a technical on OKC, they grabbed both of his arm because he went ahead. Strange take.

  14. Spurs are manhandling the Knicks. They have the same record but Spurs have been extremely injured up to this point and if they can beat OKC, as far as I'm concerned there likely the second best team in the NBA. The Knicks cannot defend them and the Spurs CAN defend them.
