  1. The trade got them Paul George AND Kawhi (essentially). That’s why they did. It was always gonna be a win for OKC, but it supposed to be win-win.

  2. The trade was to get pg and kawhi surounded by great depth. If im looking at it without hindsight i would do it 9/10 times.

  3. There is still time to trade for him we would need for the playoffs and the play in I'm starting to think it's time to let it go I will never move on though I am talking about Paul George

  4. i mean they made conference finals once kawhi just injured i don’t blame pg besides ig the bubble but the trade is just hit or miss because i believe they could’ve made some noise with kawhi

  5. Do we forget that this isn’t just PG. This is PG coming off a top 5 in MVP voting season. A rebuilding team that wanted to do right by him in sending him to a potential contender. And an organization that was working on bringing in Kawhi, arguably the best 2 way player, with a couple rings to show for it, in the league that was making the ultimatum of “if you want me, go get him”. Back in a climate where taking on draft picks and rotational pieces ment nothing compared to bringing in real established talent.

  6. Kawhi was about to team up with LeBron and AD. Clippers was not gonna let that happen

  7. I get why the Clippers did it, but unless OKC just absolutely bungled those draft picks or SGA turned out to completely bust, this was always going to be a massive W for the Thunder. Ultimately the big wins for the Thunder from the trade have been an MVP PG, an All NBA caliber wing, an extremely valuable 2026 pick that is yet to convey, and then potentially Thomas Sorber if he turns out to be a good player. The other assets they got they have mostly used to keep themselves financially flexible. Like they got a couple cheap years out of Tre Mann and then used him to get Gordon Hayward, which allowed them the financial flexibility that offseason to grab Hartenstein.

But this is what the people who value draft picks highly understand that other people don't. We don't value these picks only because they have the potential to turn into good players, we value these assets because they are more liquid than contracted players. The Thunder have used a huge amount of their draft capital to trade for more draft capital, which they have used to remain flexible and tactically target upgrades on the fringes of their roster while not having to overcommit to one singular vision.

They really are the genius franchise of the NBA, which kills me to say as a Nuggets fan. I'd sell my left nut for Jokic to have had a front office that was half as competent as OKC's has been.
