After looking into this for days, I honestly think a lot of Cavs podcasters are running on some pretty unrealistic optimism. They keep acting like everything will be fixed once the injured guys come back, and I just don’t get it. Sure, the record will probably improve compared to where it is right now—but do they really think this group can win a championship as constructed?
The Cavs have dealt with injury problems every season, and it’s been a recurring issue. Even if you assume everyone is healthy, we’ve watched this same team for four years: the lack of consistent energy, the defensive problems, and the rebounding issues don’t get solved as long as they keep the Core Four intact. That’s why I want to criticize Koby. Ever since the Core Four was put together, the same problems have been pointed out again and again, and they still haven’t been addressed.
If they actually want to fix these issues, they have to break up the Core Four—and the first move has to be splitting up the Darius Garland–Donovan Mitchell backcourt.
Last season was an obvious anomaly, Cavs played above their level setting unrealistic expectations for this season. I've been a fan for years , they are not a top level team. Way too much cap is allocated to small guards.
