The San Antonio Spurs have been a very good basketball team right in the thick of the playoff race. Spurs could look to make some type of Trade by the deadline.
I was in the same camp preseason about using vassell and his contract to go get a higher upside guy. Like a trey Murphy. And im still not against it.
But I’m all about value too.
I think when you have a guy in the building you take this type of guy for granted. You’re looking for the shiny new toy.
But if you’re a team going for a championship this is the exact type of player that you would want to trade for. A guy who’s scrappy. Who can score all 3 levels. Makes 3s at 40 percent. Plays hard.
So yeah it sounds good to go get a star with that 25 million dollar contract vassell has. And consolidate. But again for what price.
At some point it’s not worth it to give up a sure thing for a maybe if it’s gonna cost you vassell plus 2-3 picks.
And if you’re not going for a star then imo what’s the point. Get another role player hoping he’s just as good or better for a cost lol.
Imo the better trade idea is to go hunting for a cheaper player then vassell that fits a specific role of 3 and D but doesn’t cost you vassell. Instead sochan a salary filler and picks.
IE herb jones.
I’d love to get Trey Murphy too but I’m not completely sold anymore that you should offer vassell to do it.
The only way I’d consider it and feel good about it is if it’s a multi player deal.
IE herb and Trey for sochan vassell Kelly 3 firsts and 3-4 seconds.
Seems like a lot but player for player it’s good value. Now you solve 2 problems. You get your long term swingman with more versatility who can replace Barnes long term. And you also get your defensive stalwart that you wanted sochan to be but wasn’t.
Give Pelicans the hawks pick this year. The hawks pick next year. And a future spurs pick. Plus their seconds back.
IMO if you do this deal it’s better to hold on to the picks further in the future because that’s when you’ll need young talent the most to offset the costs of the the rookie extensions coming up.
If you can’t do a mega deal just target herb for sochan, a salary filler, a first and 2 seconds.
As much as i like Trey I think the safer option is just to get herb. You keep more draft capital. You keep vassell to preserve chemistry. And there will be less of an adjustment to integrate herb vs trey. Trey needs shots. Herb can just play defense and stand in the corner.
Why would we think about trading when the guys are playing so well together and have great chemistry. These guys love playing together and fans are always so quick to want to trade. Stick we with what we have.
They need to make the Gianis trade now , super stars don't grow on trees . We can trade Fox because we got his replacement on bench in David Jones Garcia , he just need his chance n he can ball . Get rid of Scohan because there not playing him and get rid of Barnes because of his expiring deal n he gone at least want 20 mil n a 2 or 3 yrs deal . Add n a 1st unprotected and 2 second round pics n that should get a deal done .
The reason y we need Gianis is we need some security in case wemby has a short career. He already done been hurt to much n this short amount of time n we need a true 4 . Plus both of them together would b down right terrifying.

I was watching kel’el ware playing yesterday, I think he would be good next to wemby. He can actually shoot the threes and play defense.

Bro i resign him for 20 mill – 14 mill next year 6 the next. Then if a bigger trade arrives its all good. Hes a good piece to have as backup.
