Yes, there is a spark and fire; somehow they turned it around in a year; hopefully no major trades to muck up a good thing at this point. You can't predict chemistry and they seem to have found some… let it cook.
If the Sixers don't sign Barlow soon, his agent may prefer to test free agency, as his value will be too high to take a 2 yr minimum without a player option for next season. But Derek Bodner predicts that Morey will wait until his 50 active games are used up, as he will want to leave open the option for a two for one trade.
If Morey waits to promote Barlow, he may have to significantly dip into the the 5.685 M t-MLE to sign him for the rest of the season plus a guaranteed 26-27 season. Note that Morey was able to sign RC-IV (now balling with HOU G-League team post summer injury) for 3 yrs in total, using the NT-MLE that was available back then. The t-MLE can only be for 2 yrs.
Ironically, most Sixers fans wanted Morey to use that t-MLE to sign Yabu (which would have left Sixers in danger of losing Grimes around July 1).
Regarding Yabu, its funny how Sixers fans never called him out for being overweight. And with that weight and age, more knee problems are likely in Yabu's future. Other GMs likely knew this and he wasn't offered anything more than a 2 yr contract (from the Knicks).
In the end, one way or another, I expect Eric Gordon to be gone. It would pain Morey to use up 2 of the 8 tradeable 2nd round pics to get a team to take EG into their space.
And its not confirmed, but Spotrac has Kyle Lowry listed as not having waived his right to veto a trade. Yet Lowry had no leverage. That is why I am hoping the plan is for Lowry to retire and become an Asst. Coach (he gets to keep his 3.63 M that way).
