OUTWORKED: Orlando Magic, Paolo Banchero FALL short of team’s lofty standards

The Orlando Magic stumbled against the Golden State Warriors as their poor intensity, precision and execution let a close game become a runaway in the fourth quarter. The team struggled to meet their lofty standards and squandered an opportunity to get an important road win.

The Magic must make do with what they have, but it is clear how much they miss Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs, two defensive stalwarts who set the tone for the team’s intensity and focus in every outing.

Their absence is not an excuse for the Magic losing their way to play, committing turnovers, giving up offensive rebounds and generally getting outworked to every loose ball and opportunity to turn the game in their favor.

  1. P5 still doesn't look right. I rewatched his videos from last year and the aggressive offense is not there. He hasn't got his legs back yet.

  2. Their defense isn’t the same without Franz, Tristan and Suggs. Actually everything runs more smoothly when they’re on the court

  3. Hope someone has a talk with P5 because since the preseason he hasn’t looked like P5 from last season… something is off. His so much better than this and it’s frustrating to see, such a talented player.

  4. Everyone has it wrong, Coach Mosely has lost the locker room. To play the way they play with no effort or heart, to response. Goga tweaking on the bench out of frustration. It’s time for a coaching change, if it goes down hill from here to all star weekend.

  5. The level of frustration when bane drove to the basket, got the attention, so passed it the Jonathan Isaac and Isaac just bobbled the ball because a lack of awarensss

  6. I’ve beeen criticizing Paolo for his lack of defense, body language for 2+ years and I’ve been called every name under the sun and a casual. A lot of the areas of the game Paolo is deficient is has nothing to do with his recent injury, it’s easier to see when he’s not able
To score. It’s hilarious, because since his injury media outlets like Phil shoehorned ā€œOrlando’s best playerā€. ā€œalphaā€ ā€œthe number one guyā€, whenever Franz was in. I hear none of that at this point because it’s absurd and has been.

Franz has been our most impactful player for years and only now fans are starting to realize this. The team is better when he’s on the floor and engaged, and despite his flaws he has the potential to be a 1st option, couldn’t say the same with Paolo

I do have to give props to Phil, because I’ve been on here criticizing his viewpoints, but he still engages with my arguments in good faith. People are very sensitive these days, that is refreshing.

  7. Finishing on offense needs to be addressed. They get good looks all the time anymore but they look for contact and whistles that don’t/won’t come instead of looking to score, with two hands, strong. So many missed opportunities mistimed, ā€œgetting cuteā€ or begging for fouls.

  8. I’m tired of the excuses for Paulo. I love paolo, but not shuffling and helping on defense not diving and showing effort. If he’s hurt, then don’t play there’s no point in forcing him to play and he’s not being himself.

  9. Ill give P5 right after the All star break to get right, but by playoffs if hes still like this ill be willing to give him up for a trade in the off-season. No reason why hes playing with no aggressiveness and gratitude for this team. This team is finally good and hes slacking on both ends. Even if hes scoring 21 ppg its such a terrible 21 points. He should be around 30ppg by now and we finally have a great team to win but he fell of majorly and dont get wrong im being very patient but after getting a max and u come out like this?? No sir. We need to win now and hes holding something back. Done with that bro! Wake up!

  10. Philip: what are your thoughts on Mose and the rotations, specifically how they all seem predetermined with no exceptions for game flow. Last night Bane started scorching hot and was the first guy to the bench rather than ride out the hot hand. Mose does that all the time.

Also, have we discussed or asked why Paolo is still not right…? He missed only 10 games, has now played 7 since returning, and he’s only 23 yrs old…why does he take so long to get right compared to every other 23 yr old star athlete…?

  11. We don’t need to trade.. we just need to stay healthy but we been hurt the last 5years.. before this team it was Markelle & JI always out

  12. Good teams should never get outworked. This team has a mindset issue. They need a fearless leader. One that isn't scared to get in their faces. Let's be clear that even without the mindset we can win 50 games if healthy by just showing up. Still need a lights out shooter off the bench. Monk or Kispert would be real nice.

  13. I think the problem with p5 is he heard all the noise when he was hurt about how he’s a ball stopper and it’s affected his game tremendously it looks like he doesn’t know what to do he’s adjusted his game to fit the system but it just doesn’t suit him the only way he gets back to himself is if the offense is geared around him like it’s always been that’s the only way you get the best version of p5 just let him play his game

  14. give some credit to the Ws. folks tend to underestimate the Ws defensive prowess because they don''t have a rim protector and are undersized, seemingly. In the end the Ws danced around Orlando and scored inside pretty easily. but again: ws defense deserves some credit here, which is good news for Orlando, in a way.

  15. I honestly don't get why everyone is so surprised by P5. His offensive stats are almost the same as in previous years. If he hits one or two more threes per game, there’s no difference at all to his past seasons. He’s always been like this defensively, and this year he’s even averaging more assists and rebounds. That’s definitely worth a max contract.
