The Spurs have so many guys that can step up, do they have the defending champs number? Just HOW GOOD can our Spurs get this year? Thanks for watching and GO SPURS GO!
Tsr this is the most talented team the spurs have had in the history of the franchise
Go Mitch Go, Go Spurs Go! Mitch is doing good.
I hope we have a great regular season and playoff run so that we can have the chance to add Yaxel Lendenborg on the Spurs during the draft as the cherry on top. Would not mind trading HB and Sochan for Trey Murphy the third
I’m calling it now. Spurs vs Knicks finals this season
Lou Dirt should be investigated
Glad the trade Castle folks hit the road🥲
Kryptonite indeed!!!!! We match up so well with the Thunder. We have an alien to defend the paint and unlimited depth on the perimeter.
One game at a time. I still haven’t gotten ahead of myself. The team is showing a ton of progress. We’re still 4 months from the playoffs.
Anyone still hating on Mitch, they’re just grumpy on the couch. Ignore them.
The team is playing at an incredibly high level and they need to get the rebounding/ turnovers figured out.
Also no wemby did not steal the Vikings skol chant as the chant originated in Europe so he’s bringing something from his country also.
Rich keep up the great work! Happy holidays. GO SPURS GO!!!!! ❄️🎄🏀
We predicted all three wins. OKC can't do much more, whereas the Spurs can. You don't really have Harper or Victor in the mix yet. They're not at their best yet. It's only their fourth or fifth game together. They're not gelled yet. You have four players who are exceptional, three of whom are just starting out: Victor, Harper, and Castle. When healthy, they're not just basketball players, they're game thinkers. Castle is a distributor and has been a very good one since he was very young, on both sides of the court. Harper is a magician, good on both sides of the court, it's like he plays without the constraint of the ball, and Victor is like having an extra player or half-player on the court. Victor just needs to learn to limit his playing time to around 30 minutes, except in exceptional circumstances or in the finals, if necessary. The only problem that may arise is fatigue, so we need to monitor rest and playing time, especially for Victor, who has a big frame.
Brian Windhorst is now contemplating whether the Spurs can make a legitimate run at the 1 seed. They are only 2 losses behind OKC, are guaranteed to have the tie breaker on OKC for the rest of the season (so for all intents and purposes are maybe only 1.5 games back in the loss column cause ending with the same record would give us the better seed), and we play them 2 more times (even though the NBA is a much longer season, to borrow an NFL analyst term, the Spurs "control their own destiny" in the Western Conference).
Olynyk will get minutes in the match ups where he's good, and when we're looking to rest starters on back to backs. He's more a floor spacing stretch 4, and what we need most in the OKC match up is physical permiter defenders to slow down SGA and JWill. In the podcast with Windhorst, Bontemps brought up the fact that yesterday Caruso was the 3rd leading shot taker for OKC with 13 FGAs, and that while he had a bad shooting night, that if you're the Spurs coaching staff, that's exactly what you want. Make their offensive creators have to either take tough shots, or get the ball out of their hands, and live with one of their below average shooters getting some open looks.
What is the secret for the Spurs to dominate OKC this way ? Wemby !!! (even if in minutes' restriction) In all three games, he is the best or nearly the best +/- : +21, +14 and +13 (despite having a great backup with Kornet). This means that his presence is very impactant and the best runs have been made with Victor on court.
Defensively, despite blocking less, his defense continues to improve and his level is now historical. He denied OKC to drive to the rim. OKC was then forced to take most of their shots from Midrange and 3-point, for a far worst % than against other teams. In his interview, JDub pointed well their problem with Victor…
Offensively his gravity made OKC to automatically double him. This was opening lines of drives to our three ball handlers who could score at the rim or make the OKC's defense collapsing towards the rim in order to assist players for totally or partially opened shots at 3.
Wemby is definitely a game changer even if he doesn't play a lot or he doesn't score a lot.
But what makes the difference between this season and last season ? Three amazing ball handlers with speed, athleticism, length, efficiency,… Fox (a future allstar this season), Castle (not the inefficient ROY but the sophomore and improved and efficient version) and Harper (a rookie but far less inefficient than Castle last season, even if he needs to work on his shooting skills this summer).
Would you trade Fox at the trade deadline ??? Hell, no !!!
PS1 : I told you this summer that Kornet would be the X-factor this season as the minutes without Wemby are not catastrophic anymore (thanks to his great rim protection).
PS2 : What would be needed by the Spurs ? Some speed in the development of Bryant (we lack depth at 4 spot). A remplacement to Sochan and Olynyk (for the same reason). A replacement to Biyombo (to add depth at 5 spot).
PS3 : The Spurs will have 4 draft picks (Hawks' first round pick [potentially a lotery pick] and three second round picks (Jazz, Portland and Miami). Let's bring PF/C !!! Haugh, Ledenborg, Ivisic brothers, Vesaar,… Let's not miss Maxime Raynaud this season !!!
Having a superstar (Wemby) so unselfish is such a luxury…
No Superstar (including Tim Duncan) but Wemby is okay to come from the bench. I think Wemby from the bench can disrupt so much the opponents strategy and coaching.
(example: do you keep your starting lineup to face Wemby, with the risk to gased them up? if not, Do you have a deep defensive bench to stop him? who on the bench can score in the paint when Wemby is there?… A superstar on the bench might be a kryptonite for all those big ego superstar…
Wonder where those $8 seats in Memphis are like the nosebleeds at the Alamodome
We have a six headed monster.
Castle, vassel, wemby, keldon, Harper, and Fox.
And three strong guys.
Barns, champagnee, and Kornet.
And our bench has to be one of the strongest around.
Sochan, olynyk, carter Bryant, McLaughlin, David Jones García, and waters.
Castle has clearly been in the lab for his 3point shot!! Well done.. It's looking way better shot than the beginning of the season.
If we were to make a trade, it should be for Trey Murphy. That would be huge for us
Good point about SGA! They are way too reliant on him as THE primary scorer — Spurs are getting buckets "by committee". Honestly, I think Castle has been the most 'important' contributor against OKC, not Wemby. To me that says the Thunder coaches will have to focus less on Wemby going forward, which will open up more spacing for him. I don't think they have a solution in sight for the Spurs menace. Playoff series against the Thunder? BRING IT ON. GSG !
Spurs are 3-0 against OKC. Every other team besides the spurs are 2-26. We have more wins than every other team COMBINED. GO SPURS GOO
I think we can beat the thunder in a 7 game series but not the nuggets. Hope I'm wrong about the latter
I hope the guys can handle prosperity and stay hungry. Epic, epic win! Big shouts to Julian and what he contributes defensively.
I just see no way we can financially keep wemby, castle, and Harper. Even without fox.
I think if we get that one seed we wont lose it
I think OKC might get the risk of meeting spurs on playoff. So the might try to get stronger with a trade, and they have best option to do so
This is my first positive Spurs comment in forever, Rich:
GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!
When the spurs dont beat themselves, nobody else can beat them.
