Orlando Magic’s Up-And-Down PERFORMANCE – Should Fans Panic About Offensive WOES?

Orlando Magic’s Up-And-Down PERFORMANCE – Should Fans Panic About Offensive WOES?

The Orlando Magic clung to a 110-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers thanks to their defense’s clutch plays down the stretch.

But for the third straight game, the offense disappeared after building a big lead. The repeated offensive slumps raise plenty of questions about the team’s execution, its star Paolo Banchero and how long the team might survive through the injuries that have taken away several key players.

It did not matter as much on Tuesday because of a clutch defensive play from Desmond Bane and surprising offensive contributions from Tyus Jones and Jonathan Isaac.

  1. I like tonight’s Paolo fr. I like him not taking the ball for too long and fighting for every rebound. That’s the Paolo I wanna see. A guy who fit in the team instead of doing everything on his own

  2. We’re streaky and kinda suck because Suggs and Franz are out and P5 is at like 85%. Until these things change expect more of the same. Ty jones 9 game sample of like 4.5 ppg and 2.8 apg is rancid for a starting PG who’s doesn’t defend

  3. As much as I want All Star Paolo, I see his body language. He looks stiff, like someone who is not at 90-100 percent. I think this also affects him mentally because he fears of making the groin injury worse.

  4. I think the magic should just rest paolo or put him on a 15-20 min restriction. His body language is stiff and he clearly isn’t at 90 percent.

  5. This offense scheme is horrid. We’re 11th in offense in spite of the scheme not because of it. The off ball movement is non existent, we end up playing 4 out with only 2 shooters on the floor which clogs the paint, when they aren’t able to get in transition there is no plan b. So they rely on poor P&Rs and isos that lead to bad shots because no one is clearing the paint with their movement. They lost these leads because the offense is built to stall. There are no easy buckets that aren’t in transition. And when you are scheming away from your star player he will stay out of rhythm and be inefficient and lead to a passive player. If you look at any other team with the player the caliber of Paolo, they have specific sets, and miss match opportunities to get them the ball to get going early so they can do what they are supposed to do late. We’ve done none of that. I haven’t even mentioned how they’re trying to make him the facilitator. All of these are bad schemes and bad coaching. They built this offense with Franz in mind but the problem is he isn’t playing right now and it doesn’t fit our other personnel except for AB. 5 will never get a rhythm if they continue to give him the ball at the top of they key and have him drive into a loaded paint. Or posting up at the top of the wing into a double team because they can leave the non shooters on bad spacing. It’s almost like they are more worried about 5 not getting All NBA so they don’t have to pay him instead of actually building an efficient offense. Not absolving Paolo at all. He needs to be more aggressive even demanding of the ball in the right position. He can’t do this fit in thing. They need to fit around him. I’m so tired of seeing him drive and kick when he’s 3 feet away from the cup. Again, we do NOT have the personnel to do this. Only players that deserves that pass right now are Bane and WCJ ironically. Injured, working his way back, fitting in or whatever, he has to prioritize getting back into scoring rhythm so this non offensive scheme can at least have a consistent scorer. Rant over

  6. We’re always in disagreement, I thought this was the best Paolo game offensively. I’m perfectly fine with him playing like this until he seems to get shot back. If he could play like this and not he a cone on defense I’m happy.

  7. I’m increasingly worried P5 + Mose aren’t on good terms. It’s felt like that all yr and worse since he returned. Even been reports of serious concerns in the org about their big disconnect + total lack of communication. Esp during games.
I think he’s “lost” P5. some of the locker room too. They don’t even play hard for him anymore.

both have also made odd postgame comments. Mike Miller even alluded to there being probs. (seems it began over the new + awful offensive system they tried.)

  8. I agree with all the comments here. I don't think P5 is at 100% also he seem tentative to do his thing to fit in. He is only having moments of aggression be that because of injury or to not get into bad habit offense.

With that being said looking back i think we are being unfair to P5. If you think back Franz has only played without Paolo. But Paolo this year and last year has has to come back from injury and play with no franz suggs or Mo last year, this year, no franz suggs mo or Tristan. Its hard to get into rhythm when you are missing two vital starters. When i frame it like that I'm not worried. He is having to play with 2 players that are not normal starters.

As long as he is not hurting us or himself let him get the reps in. Once suggs is back i think he will be allot better.

  9. There is no point of playing Tyus Jones if he’s not going to have the ball to create. Paolo lacks the ball handling skills right now so Bane and Tyus should be the main creators.
