Trae is a better player than IQ but it's more than that. What does it mean to the other starters. The money is one thing which is a problem but adding Trae means you need to put the ball in his hands. Which means it's not in Scottie's hands. That is the problem. Why would we trade for a guy that plays on a team that is better without him on the floor, and we have swept that same team 4 easy ones already this year. It would be stupid to mess with the current chemistry by adding a toxic locker room guy to boost the offense a little of the team just to try and get a little better at offense and a lot worse at defense. Makes no sense for the Raptors.
Stay the course and continue to develop the young talent for another year, make a good playoff push, but realistically it will take another year to get to the point where everything is championship clicking. Every championship team has been good for a couple of years before they finally make it. Continuity is what makes a championship team.

Compare their nightly plus minus this season. Quik is +1.7, Trae is -3.7. Compare their season plus minus this season. Quick +70. Trae -37. So no, he doesn't help any team this year become a contender. Also, only has 1 more year of playoff experience than Quik (granted, Hawks made a conference finals with Trae being the star player)… I think in the post season, yeah, he is a big asset, and can call games singularly. But it isn't the system Toronto is running, which is working currently. Adding Trae to the Raptors would diminish our chances of maintaining our edge in the East and positioning in the seeding. Nah bra
Trae Young got paid 40 million dollars in the first place purely because of his offensive production. Valuing a player based on one part of their game will always prove to be a mistake. Not a single cent towards his contract was for his defense. Now, you are left with a deteriorating asset because who in their right mind wants to take on a player that gives up as many, if not more points, than he scores? The raptors would get smaller, and Trae is a ball dominant guy, and he is not that great off the ball. He can shoot, but he's no steph curry when it comes to doing little things.
