Mark Jones on His Broadcasting Journey, Being the Voice of the Kings | Conversations with Deuce & Mo

Deuce and Mo sit down with Sacramento Kings and ESPN play-by-play announcer Mark Jones for an in-depth conversation about his journey through basketball and broadcasting. Mark reflects on what sparked his love for the game, his experience playing college basketball in Canada, and the lasting influence his father had on his life and career.

He also shares his path into broadcasting, how he prepares to call NBA games, and why storytelling, and humanizing athletes, is at the core of his approach.

The conversation dives into Mark’s deep connection to Sacramento, what the city means to him, and the pride and responsibility that come with being the voice of the Kings.

  1. Loving the interview series so far! You two are so personable and well-prepared, and you really bring out the human side of your guests. Are you involved in choosing the interview candidates? I’d absolutely love to see more Kings players and members of the coaching staff featured!

  2. I love the commitment to unironic sincerity.

28 years at ESPN and being neutral, and finally being invested "You signed up for heartbreak but I love it" I think i love how he describes the human experience of being a fan and the pride he has when he "busts that ~____" with the extra layer of attachment.

The fanbase of Sacramento is a real positive differentiator.
