Toronto Raptors Trades For Ochai Agbaji

Cyro Asseo breaks down the Toronto Raptors’ most realistic Ochai Agbaji tax-avoidance trade paths, explaining why this is a clean, finance-driven move rather than a talent chase. Toronto sits at 25–19 and fourth in the Eastern Conference, but with the team hovering roughly $1M from the luxury tax, the front office has a clear incentive to shed salary while preserving functional depth.

In this video, Asseo walks through Toronto’s current lineup structure and why a cheap backup big makes the most sense in any Agbaji deal—especially given Jakob Poeltl’s injury volatility and the Raptors’ reliance on ball movement over shooting. He explains why Agbaji’s role and efficiency profile make him the obvious tax valve, then evaluates clean one-for-one concepts involving Nick Richards, Marvin Bagley, and Kevin Love, along with why more complex constructions (like Portland) are unlikely to materialize.

This is not a roster reset. It’s a targeted cap-management move designed to keep Toronto competitive in the East while avoiding unnecessary tax penalties under the new CBA.

  1. Nick Richards plays for the Suns not the Hornets. As for Marvin Bagley, he is a PF but I wouldn't mind the Raptors getting him for Ochai and the 2026 2nd (via LAL). Save about 4mil and definitely get under the tax.
