MELTDOWN: Minnesota Timberwolves SQUANDER Lead, Chris Finch’s Rotation Decisions Take Center Stage

The Minnesota Timberwolves kicked away a victory against the lowly Utah Jazz with poor defense, lazy offense, and poor coaching and rotation decisions. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down the biggest issues in the loss, focusing on Chris Finch’s rotation mistakes and the ongoing issue of failing to get up for games against supposedly inferior opponents.

  1. Ahh good Ole finchy costing wolves a game by playing the corpse of Mike Conley and refusing to play joan more then the good Ole 5 minute stint like he used to do rob I really dont know if finch is a good coach or if he's coaching ant so he wins 50 games a year simply because ant is a top 5 player every year we have a handful of games finch loses us you'd think he'd learn his lesson at some point maybe connelly needs to trade Conley so finch wont be tempted to give him minutes at no point this year has he shown anything to even warrant being in the rotation let alone being the 7th man all year . Hate to say it but with finch as wolves hc winning a title will always be a longshot he's to stubborn to make the nessasary adjustments at some point he's gonna have to otherwise one of these years wolves will decide just making a playoff run isn't enough and championship or bust is the new mission

  2. Think you're giving Ant too much grace. His off-ball defense was terrible, backcut more times than I could count. His offense somewhat balanced it out but he definitely was not stud worthy.
Rudy too, while the perimeter defense was a big culprit, he was less energetic than normal. Only Donte, Clark and Joan seemed to care about defense IMO.

  3. Conley killed this game and his minutes were obvious, and I was screaming at the TV every time. The defense is bad but the offense is spectacularly bad. He literally cant get his shot off in time anymore, so he just passes up open 3s, probes, cant do anything in the lane, and kicks it out, but he was so slow driving that he never created advantage or rotation, its just like 8 seconds of the clock that disappears.

Dubious Handles was back in full force as well, this was really the game to get Joan some serious run but I think you can literally just give all of Mikes minutes to Rob at this point, at least then you can say you are trying to develop someone. Hyland if you are actually trying to win, and Rob if you are just wanting to squander the lead but also maybe get something out of it.

I was all for keeping Conley on the team to be a coach/mascot but if Finch cant help himself, then I am all for trading him and Dillingham off for a 15 million dollar player if it means it takes out of Finchs hands the ability to accidentally play them. We turn them into something like a Keon Ellis and a Slomo or something.

  4. Put the loss on Finchy and his suspect Rotations.

    *Mike Shouldn't play this Much
    -Need more Bones

    *Need less Naz/Randle pairing
-Lack of Rim Protection and lob Threat

    *Play Baringer and Bones More

  5. This is exactly what you get when you have a incompetent coach with no plan as regards to a point guard!!!!! This is 100 per cent on the coach who really is no coach!
