Spurs’ Plan For Wemby Is Just Genius

Spurs’ Plan For Wemby Is Just Genius

The San Antonio Spurs are handling Victor Wembanyama in a way we’ve never seen before. From minute restrictions to coming off the bench, Mitch Johnson and the management have a long-term plan built around health, longevity, and winning. In this video, I break down why the Spurs are doing it, how it’s already working, and what it could mean for the future of superstar management in the NBA.

  1. Is this the right way to handle a generational talent, or are the Spurs going too far?

  2. Yeah, why play if get paid without. Can get paid for nothing lot longer. Also, why people buy tickets if best players sit out? Load management is cancer. League is too soft and players never compete against others, not really.

  3. As much as I want to see a ton of highlights from the French alien, I love this approach from the Spurs.

I always admired the way they treat the collective and take their recipe so seriously. They work hard to build dynasties and reach the title multiple times, more than chasing the "Hollywood bling bling" aspect of basketball.

Wisdom and patience is such a lost art, it is refreshing to see the franchise play their cards that way!

And I honestly feel that it sets an extra pressure on other teams, when you are currently standing second in the toughest conference of the NBA and your MVP player is playing "part-time", pretty scary to imagine this team heading to the playoffs fully prepared and ready to win the title!

  4. The Spurs may be erring on the side of caution with Wemby but it's understandable why that is. One aspect to all of this is I think Wemby and the Spurs have wide open lines of communication. I think we can see there is a tremendous amount of trust between player and organization. And part of the reason for that, while it goes unspoken, is the Spurs felt like there could have been better communication with their last superstar Kawhi Leonard and we all know how that ended. (Leaving aside the shadiness of Kawhi and uncle Dennis for now.)

  5. Unfortunately if you watch Spurs games you will see that Victor is sometimes like a deer on ice. He's just too tall and he falls way too many times during a game. I think over the next couple years he'll get stronger but I hope he stops growing. Supposedly he is really 7 ft 6 with no exaggeration. Look at pictures of him standing next to other supposed 7-footers and they are so much shorter than him. Unfortunately people at Victor's height normally do not have long careers. Maybe this will help.

  6. i mean his stamina is limited He seems to tire quickly because he's doing things at 7'5" that he's not supposed to be doing, it's just like that

  7. Our record is better when he comes off the bench. The other team's starters get tired 6 minutes in the game and then Wemby comes in fresh after downloading them and destroys their bench.

  8. These people play for our enjoyment notwithstanding I care more for the person. If a coach does what is good for the person I believe that translates to what's good for the team.

  9. Missed games is always the players fault when we forget that the team is the one who sat them. Take Zion for instance, the pelicans sat him when he was healthy and then now ppl say "ohhh he missed x amount of games in y seasons". Forgetting that the pelicans sat him when he was healthy because they were scared. But now they don't care about him they let the narrative run about him being unhealthy.
