Are Knicks BETTER without Karl-Anthony Towns?

Jason reacts to the New York Knicks’ recent stretch where they’ve looked better when Karl-Anthony Towns is off the floor. Should the team make a move before the NBA trade deadline to focus on winning with Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, and others?

  1. Is everyone finally understanding why we Timberwolves fans laugh whenever People say we shouldn’t have traded Kat?

  2. As a New Yorker, the initial thoughts was kat was a needle mover, but not good enough to plug the team Holes. After watching for the last year and a half, I can confirm their flow is just not as good. Even in the Mike brown system they see to still want to revert to the pre trade version of themselves, and the flow is just better in both ends. Going for more “upside” with Kat instead of keeping Hartenstein and valuing true depth, was in a way a reversion to the hasty win now Knicks of old. Kats Still an uber talented player though, can’t deny

  3. KAT started the third quarter and picked up his 4th foul with 10:24 left in third and sat the rest of the third quarter. KAT then starts the fourth quarter and picks up his 5th foul within 25 seconds of the fourth. That’s the issue with Towns.

  4. So we just going to pretend that brunson doesn't impact offensive players around him? They need a myles turner type big. Someone whos value isnt driven from scoring. I dont see Giannis working next to him they both need the ball to be effective and Giannis is not a floor spacer

  5. I don't know what you do with KAT, man. My instinct was in line with MIN's GM–Put him with a 4x DPOY to cover up his defensive holes (pause), and let him be the offensive side of a modern version of a twin-towers setup. Dude can't hang as a starting 5 or a 4. He's skilled, but his effort is maddeningly inconsistent. It's a shame.

  6. Correct: also Knicks are better with Mitch on the court than Kat statistically. Kats on/offs are carried by the non Mitch games, with Mitch on and Kat off they are around +7, the opposite is +6. Mitch has a +2.7 on/off while playing almost exclusively adverse to Kats minutes

  7. Knicks were AWESOME on defense and had AMAZING chemistry UNTIL that Kat trade happened . Knicks defense completely disappeared and that magical chemistry completely disappeared as well . I was beyond furious when that trade happened , I knew the Knicks had something really special and now it was gone.

  8. Obviously Brunson and KAT is a recipe for disaster. But Bridges, who struggles with screen nav, is also in a bad position with KAT as his rim protector. Knicks need all defenders around Brunson; yes i believe theyd be better without KAT so long as they gained a playmaker and another rim.protector.

  9. It's a crazy notion but really true. Reminiscent of their playoff run two years ago. It always comes back to Mitch's ability to stay healthy. He is an absolute monster. And as you said, there's no obvious answer of what to do with KAT.

  10. Some players need more support than others. The Knicks never seemed to embrace KAT and integrate him into the offense like they should.

Now he is clearly struggling at a high level and it doesn't look like he is being supported, in fact it may be the opposite.

I think it would be foolish to dismiss his potential contributions to the team because and not make an earnest attempt to help him get over this period as a unit.
