Free Hoops! In two overtimes, the No. 17 Cavaliers defeated the Fighting Irish, 100-97. Virginia’s Sam Lewis hit the game-tying three-pointer with 3 seconds left in the first overtime to keep the Cavaliers alive, and then he hit a jumper with 16 seconds left in the second overtime to all put seal the victory. Lewis scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and overtime. Thijs De Ridder was UVA’s leading scorer with 32 points on 9-20 shooting, to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Chance Mallory added 17 points. Cole Certa scored a career-high 34 points for Notre Dame. Certa made five three-pointers in the game. Jalen Haralson added 20 points, and Braeden Shrewsberry scored 18 points, with 15 coming in the game’s opening 12 minutes.

    For UVA to come from behind 19 pts and over come amazing 3 point shooting from Notre Dame, what an effort and great win on the road in double OT.

    There was at least 3 moving screens that Notre Dame committed in the highlights alone that caused a 2-3 point swing instead of a offensive foul. what are we doing refs?

    It was a win, nothng short of miraculous. That was because the team had to battle the referees as well as theh Fighting Irish. How does oen team pick up seven quick fouls in the first half while the home team has just two? Still UVA had the pluck and grit to pull this game out of the fire. This is one big defining win for this team. One thing, for a freshman, Chance Mallory has court savvy beyond his age! The officiating crew was calling cheap touch fouls all game which slowed th etempo of the game down considerably.I look for Cole Certa of Notre Dame to be a first round pick for the NBA,, for both foul shooting and being a three point specialist.
