Luka Garza is a perfect fit on the Boston Celtics ☘️ | Plugged In

Luka Garza was always bound to succeed in Boston because of his love of the game and his blue-collar approach to the work.

“I really feel like this is where I should be.”

A very successful collegiate career playing for Iowa Basketball included matchups with current teammate Xavier Tillman at Michigan State. After becoming the ‘Big Ten’s best basketball player’ during his run and later being drafted to Detroit, Luka has brought all his learnings to Beantown, where he’s carved out a critical role off the bench. His ability to dominate the offensive boards with reliable outside shooting is the product of working with his father, Frank Garza, to improve his game at all levels.

Garza comes from a decorated sports family on both sides. Frank played collegiately at Idaho, while his Bosniak mother, Šejla Muftić, played professionally in Europe. His maternal grandfather, Refik Muftić, was an accomplished soccer goalkeeper with FK Sarajevo, and he stills remembers experiencing his grandfather’s fame during his childhood. Garza’s paternal grandfather, James Halm, played college basketball for Hawaii.

Everything pointed to a successful pro career for Luka, and now that he’s a Celtic, it truly is all coming together ☘️
