Sochan’s Time with the Spurs Is OVER (Why It’s Harsh, But Logical)

Jeremy Sochan’s future with the San Antonio Spurs is becoming increasingly unclear as the NBA trade deadline approaches. His on-court fit next to Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and the current Spurs roster raises real questions about long-term compatibility. Contract situation, trade rumors, and possible return options all play a role in why San Antonio may be ready to move on. This situation reflects how quickly NBA timelines can shift for young players, but this separation could end up benefiting both Sochan and the Spurs.

  1. Jeremy not being able to agree on an extension last offseason was the end for him. Thats most likely the main reason he was put out of the rotation this season.

  2. You make the point that Brian Wright is an average GM. His 2020, 2021 and 2022 drafts were disasters. He needs a "no brainer" draft to look like a genius. Even the Fox trade was not genius b/c he WANTED to be in Texas due to family ties…and Wemby.

  3. You laid it out well. Jeremy is a good player and deserves to be in the NBA, but he just isn't a good fit to the way this team is evolving.

  4. Sochan suddenly forget to play basketball in his fourth season? Pop died on November 2, 2024…the end of the Pop-Buford glory days. Wemby is going to get frustrated with the inept Bitch Johnson, who is responsible to about 6 losses. We can't even beat lottery teams at home for damn's sake. Effeminate, soft "head" coach = soft team. Spurs will be a one and done in the playoffs and Wemby will have wasted ANOTHER year here. You can see Wemby's frustration in interviews after a loss.

  5. What did we miss? Nothing, only his die hard stans believe he's still a crucial piece up to this point. Dude's a scrub since year 1.

  6. I like Sochan. I definitely think he's capable of filling an important role for the team. Defense, slashing and being the hard nosed guy that can irritate the other team's best players.

I personally think the team failed to develope him. Instead of playing to his strengths, they kept trying to mold him into an "idea" that the coaches had.

It didn't help that Keldon has been playing lights out. And Barnes started off hot.

The biggest mistake Sochan made was overvaluing himself and demanding a $20m per year contract. If he had settled for $12-15 I think the Spurs would've kept him. His demands placed him outside the vision for the future. They couldn't overpay Jeremy with Wemby, Castle, and Harper also needing to get paid in the next few years. If Jeremy could've swallowed his pride and took a lower salary for the sake of building a championship, I think it could've worked. But I can't blame him for wanting to get paid. I think he could've been like a Malik Rose type player for the Spurs. Energizer and enforcer. A role every winning team needs.

I think that in the end, money was the last nail in his coffin. His price tag was too high to include him in their future plans. So the team invested their minutes on players that fit their timeline better. A bit of a sad situation as a Sochan fan. But it is what it is. If he leaves, I wish him the best.

  7. 🧾 These Spurs collectively bring "The Nasty" only in 2nd half but Jeremy Sochan always brought it ALL GAME.

  8. Let's get rid of Harisson Barnes and Vassel on the same occasion… and get a real good 3 and 4

  9. Makes me sad, but he deserves to be playing, so I hope we send him somewhere where he’ll play
