Like I've said a few podcasts ago, I don't mind losing, as long as we see our young guys play meaningful minutes, and importantly, play competitive, team basketball. Quite frankly, the string of "close games" that we've been seeing recently are not competitive; we're just being saved by solid performances by DeRozan and LaVine. It's not right, and I don't know if solving our roster issue quickly, or if Coach Christie changes his offensive planning, will fix anything, but frankly, the product just sucks. Most importantly for me, how are we to expect productive development from our young guys if we're not even playing the right type of basketball, and instead are fueled by impressive, yet unsustainable and tactical hero performances?
Hard to say 2nd round picks don't matter when we're watching 2 who look pretty good.
So a low value second rounder and a player you couldn't resign to dump DS and Dario, why are people upset? I get it Keon was one of ours but he hadn't had a chance to play out of his funk. Also with this deal for Hunter this ends the chance that Kuminga and his all about me attitude lands in Sacramento. Hunter's contract is not that long it is just a look and see. Matt I hope by some miracle Lavine is gone by Thursday. Thoughts on the game I liked watching the two way crew get minutes personally I think I would rather watch Plowden than the Bulls West crew any day
The Kings bombed like that Melania movie.
Damn it’s so hard being a kings fan 😭
De'Andre Hunter for Johnathan Kuminga? 🤔
Idek there was a game tonight
We already knew from their time in Chicago that Levine and Rosen can combine for 60 points and still lose one of the worst teams in the league. Somehow we went into this season with both of them on the roster when they essentially cancel each other out and cause their team to become the worst of the worst even when they play their best together. To say that tonight was something special when they did the same. Exact thing again is mind-boggling and makes you look like somebody who never excelled beyond Junior High basketball. If you bought out DeRozan tonight and got serious about winning this team begins to win half of their games. So far Scott Perry looks like an absolute idiot, but what he does next could point the franchise in the right direction and make this team fun to watch again.
Kings need to release Westbrook next
Knitpicking the rookies on a game by game basis at this point is useless. They’ll have good games, and they’ll have bad games. Part of being a rookie. Just keep losing and letting the young guys play — whether they lose by 60 or win. It doesn’t matter. We are in the very beginning stages of a multi-year stink fest. No use wasting energy on anything other than draft position.
Can the Kings trade DeAndre Hunter be traded before the deadline
DO NOT SAY MORE MOVES ARE COMMING. KINGS RADIO PERSONALITIES SAY THIS AFTER EVERY STUPID MOVE THEY MAKE AND NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!
If I hear “patience “ or “more moves coming” or “flexibility” again…. I’m gonna commit violence. 🤦♂️
Clifford has been a joke.
Go Skal Labissiere. Did his rounds in G League, got a small window of opportunity and executed. Yeah Nique Clifford has been given the royal carpet and silver platter.. and still butt cheeks. He's just not him and will never be him.
My guess is the Kings overpaid to pick up Hunter so they can finally get Kuminga and help facilitate Giannis going to the Warrors. LaVine/Hunter/Picks/Swap to MIL – Giannis/Kuzma to GS – Butler/Kuminga to SAC
Can’t really agree with Matt on something’s here tbh. Nique struggles because all the plays aren’t even drawn for them, or even if they’re drawn it’s not like Zach nor DeMar will flow with it. That’s an issue and just to be straight the coaching is so absurd I don’t wanna get into the details about plays and defense. I forgot because Valde told these guys have to play Zach and Debo over development just like the last 13 years on losing. Getting DeAndre felt like Kings are still trying to get to a win now proposition rather than do what needs to be done. We the fans are mad at the trade because it doesn’t make sense if you’re losing and why add a piece to go straight into the 1st apron right after this season. Makes no sense tbh. I feel like Scott Perry could flip him to GSW and get Kuminga and Moody and a pick or other trades, but where is this team really headed… I feel like this wasn’t a Scott move tbh and feels like a Vivek once again. The sense of false hope still lives in the delusional owner and like I mentioned before after 13 years it’s going nowhere. The organization profits at a loss in the upcoming season and it literally becomes a loss on asset getting tax brakes for Vivek. Playing basketball politics all over again. The same rinse and repeat so Vivek grow the teams net worth entirely failing to deliver to Kings fans once again. Pitching the same strategy same story and high ticket prices again until the owner sells that’ll be when change can happen at a higher level.
The immense stupidity of this trade is still mind-boggling a day later. You traded away one negative asset for an even more negative asset so you don't have to worry about a contract two years from now. Why not just say no so the next team tjat calls you up knows you are not such a patsy. This trade would have made sense if the Kings were a 7 seed looking to get better on the margins. But we're not. We need an entire new team. And with this trade, the Kings basically announced we cannot even start to get better for two years.
Another stupidity is looking at Keegan as untouchable. He is not. If I could turn him into two 2 high Draft picks I would. How, trade him to OKC for their 2 swap rights.
This is a good trade . I loved it
Clifford needs development.
It was good to see Skal, much more so than Marvin.
Would rather have been on the Titanic than on the court tonight
Kings got best player in the deal by far; DeAndre Hunter is a 6‘8“ wing with 7‘2“ wingspan who’s been a very accomplished two way player in the NBA averaging 14 to 19 points per game on 47, 38, 84% splits; he is the very definition of a three and D wing, and he’s only two years older than Keon. The fact that Kings were able to get him is a good thing, but Kings fans are just used to complaining about everything. This is not the same thing as giving away Davion Mitchell or Rashad Holmes or others for nothing. This is a solid get for the Kings; best case Hunter is part of the next 4 to 5 years rebuild. Worst case he’s a valuable expiring contract next year because he will be desired by other teams – guards are a dime a dozen, wings of Hunters caliber are not.
Regarding people complaining about Perry, are you serious? He inherited a huge challenge and while he still has work to do, he’s actually been pretty phenomenal in several ways. He did great in the draft; he found two centers that should be part of the future one in the second round and the other undrafted. They are already better and longer defensively than Sabonis is. Clifford started slow and his offense hasn’t been what people hoped but his defense is pretty darn solid.
Perry has also done well with fringe move other GM’s never made. Signing Westbrook and Achiuwa to veteran minimum contracts in training camp are great fringe moves. Both the players have outperformed their salaries by a mile. Achiuwa may be a long-term good role player for the Kings.
In summary, Hunter is the exact type of player. Kings fans have been desiring for years, for good reason, but when it happens, you just want to complain.
The frustration is that we have a gm who is already making moves to fix past mistakes. The team is in worse position than when he took over. Virtually every decision he’s made except drafting have been questioned. Hiring Doug, making trades to gain cap space to sign two vet guards, the Keon contract debacle, and now using Keon to make a salary dump which is only necessary to accelerate a rebuild because you have intent to sign free agents which we now have a track record of guys that Scott likes to get going back to the days of vlade which perfectly fit viveks agenda to sell tickets and compete for a play in over building for a perennial playoff team.
Kangz be da Kangz…
Great job tonight Matt, thank you for everything you do for our miserable team.
I agree the trade is “meh.” But from a roster construction standpoint, it helps move the Kings in the right direction, and it gives Nique and the younger players more opportunity, which as you point out, was sort of squandered tonight. I’m blinded by optimism, but I truly think if they can move at least one more vet, get draft compensation or a young prospect AND net a top 3 pick in the draft, this team will be WAY more fun (and successful) next year.
We should be playing all our rooks Devon Carter especially, they have serious athletic potential just need time !!!
I hate how trades work in the NBA and it’s very hard being a Kings fan…we can only build tithe draft and trades most FA do not want to come to Sacramento
Devin Carter needs a change of scenery, asap.
People are probably down on the trade because reports said the kings will not use Keon as a sweetener in a trade or use draft capitol to unload a veteran and did the exact opposite 😂😂😂
Nique isn’t hungry enough. He should be making his mark and trying to make this team his. 3 shots in 29 mins is a damn shame.
