I have been a 76ers fan for a long time, and they have done this since they became my team when Dr.J joined the team. I remember when they traded Moses Malone. When they traded the first overall pick for trash players. Oh, yea, that first round pick they gave away went to draft Brad Daughtry, which turned out to be a really good center. I think we need a new owner and new GM. We need a new GM ASAP. One of us fans could do a better job than that bonehead.

McCain wasn't going to get the minutes he needed to get back. Sold high on a player that was just playing in the G League weeks ago.
Yes, the pick is a low pick but this team was thought to be playing up to a level to where they'd be drafting in that position anyway. Yes, this gets them under the apron, so it opens up money in the offseason to retool the bench with better insurance for those frontline and wing depth. They are getting a lot of production out of their two way players that they can now move to full nba contracts so it's working out.
Good player, good personality, bad roster situation, bad injury timing.

They have too many guards and McCain gives you max value but if you keep him on the bench and not playing much, you won’t even get half of what you got now. Sure, he can be great but you won’t see that as long as you keep him on the bench. To me, VJ’s arrival changed everything.

New Ideas- probably have to include Drummond in the trades for his 5 million contract to help match salaries

– don't think they can get both unless it's a multi team trade
– if Sixers get Ayo then get another Big in some other trade like maybe Missi or Matkovich or someone else

I think Jared will be a very good NBA player. I believe the draft picks the 76ers received back for McCain are valuable, especially the 1st round pick in the 2026 draft. The trade allows ownership to duck the tax and make room to sign Barlow and Walker to standard deals.
Given the cap restraints with this roster, this move allows the 76ers to go younger and cheaper for the next few years. With these draft picks they can focus on upgrading at positions of need which are wing and back up center.
McCain gets a stronger opportunity to win a championship with OKC. I expect this season we'll see McCain return to near his rookie form as he was on that trajectory in the past few weeks. For all of the reasons stated I believe this will work out to be a win win trade for both the 76ers and McCain even though I would have liked to see Jared develop into an all star player with the 76ers.
