LIVE REACTION to the Cleveland Cavaliers final trade deadline deals & what they mean moving forward

The NBA’s trade deadline is at 3pm today so join Mikey McNuggets and the UCSS crew as they react live to the final moments of the deadline and whatever Koby Altman does or doesn’t do.

This could be the day the Cleveland Cavaliers solidify its roster as a Bonafede championship contender. Or Altman could stand pat and hope his first three moves are enough to push Cleveland over the top.

Donovan Mitchell scored 29 points and had nine assists, Jaylon Tyson added 17 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers routed the Los Angeles Clippers 124-89 on Wednesday night, hours after the teams completed a trade of All-Stars.

The Cavaliers sent guard Darius Garland to the Clippers in exchange for James Harden. Neither took the court for their new teams.

Jarrett Allen scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Dennis Schroder added 11 points in his Cavaliers debut and Keon Ellis had 6 points in his first game with the Cavaliers, who won for the seventh time in eight games. Schroder and Ellis were acquired from Sacramento in a three-team trade Sunday.

Kawhi Leonard scored 25 points and John Collins added 19 for the Clippers, who lost consecutive games for the first time since a five-game losing streak in December.

Rookie Yanic Konan Niederhauser scored 10 points and had eight rebounds for Los Angeles, which is 17-5 since Dec. 20, although most of that success was with Harden. The Clippers also were without starting center Ivica Zubac, who was out for the birth of his child.

The Cavaliers shot 51.0% from the floor and went 16 of 41 (39.0%) from 3-point range. The Clippers shot 6 of 28 (21.4%) from 3-point range and had 24 turnovers that the Cavs turned into 47 points.

The Cavaliers raced out to a 20-point lead late in the first quarter, with the Clippers pulling within 46-38 just past the midway point of the second quarter. Cleveland surged to a 62-42 lead at halftime.

The Clippers never threatened from there as the Cavaliers led by at least 20 through much of the third quarter and by 35 in the fourth.

Clippers forward Derrick Jones Jr. had 7 points in his return after he missed a month with a knee injury.

  1. Get the Greek Freak and give Allen, Strus and Nance. Then will have The Greek Freak, The Beard and Spida!!!😊

  2. Im ao glad they kept allen. Theres a reason why other teams want him and mobley can only play center on a very specific roster. Not this one…

  3. Anyone else expecting mitchell to get injured the 1st week after the all star break? Cuz where else but cleveland? 😅

  4. The Cavs may not have gotten under the 2nd Apron, but that doesn't make the moves they made any less valuable. For starters, they saved over $100M (believe closer to $100M) in salaries and taxes. Yes, it is just Dan's money, but that's still a ton of money for anyone to spend unnecessarily, and saving money now makes it easier to justify spending more later should the right opportunities materialize. Beyond that, I personally feel the team improved SIGNIFICANTLY. So we saved a ton of money while also raising our ceiling.

While they didn't get below the 2nd Apron, getting as close as we did is still very meaningful. Yes, our 2033 first-round pick is now frozen from trading, but you could easily view that as protection against a potentially risky trade with that pick given the team's current timeline. The team will still have 2 first-round picks available to trade this summer should the right trade(s) be available. Beyond that, getting closer to the 2nd Apron will make it much easier to manage over the next few years. It will be far less complex to get under it if we want to make a trade that aggregates players and to avoid the additional draft pick penalty that kicks in if you're in the 2nd Apron 3 out of 5 consecutive years.

Honestly think this was an absolutely masterful performance from Koby and the team this week and the team looked phenomenal last night, even without Mobley, Strus, or Harden. Harden is going to unlock so many incredible opportunities on offense for this team, particularly with Mobley and Allen. Can't wait for his first game Saturday and to watch this team the rest of the season!

  5. I would have definitely preferred Zion over toxic harden. Can you imagine Zion and Mobley playing together!!

  6. What is wrong with you guys? Why do you want LeBron James? He has a negative plus minus he doesn’t really play defense. For the veteran minimum 10 minutes a game that’s perfect. For this 18 $20 million contract taken up a roster spot taken up roster capital, no we already have to watch his Mr. rocking chair, crying everywhere

  7. Don't be disappointed just yet buddy. Remember the trade rule that as long as the deal was on the table, you can continue negotiations after the deadline has elapsed…

  8. I just want to know why Thomas Bryant can’t be our back up Center. He can shoot he grabs boards, he brings toughness the Cavs need, he can protect the paint some. I just don’t get it

  9. They should trade Larry Nance Jr for Bonnie James and get Thompson from Detroit Pistons the caves should go get him and add him to the Cavs

  10. Drummond for strus is a yes. Too many guards, and a movement shooter with feet problems.
76ers get an off ball guy for Maxey and Embid but have to ear 10milion more in salary. Cavs get a solid (not amazing) spot up 3pt Center that can absolutely get boards and has some body bulk

  11. So Jason "big timed " ya on trade deadline day? lol

I really appreciate you breaking down how the apron system works. Thanks Mike.

  12. Mikey, nothing to be disappointed about, sometimes the best move is NO move. You never want to make a trade you're going to regret and set back your franchise for the foreseeable future

  13. Mr. Krabs: Once again, that DG trade from Tuesday is all your fault, LIL MAN THE O.G. and greatness3928! This is because of the refusal of you two to watch your potty mouths by refusing to keep your rude, disrespectful, offensive and derogatory comments to yourself! Because of the refusal of you two to watch your filthy, degrading potty mouths and continuing to violate YouTube Community Guidelines, now many Cavaliers fans might stop watching Cavaliers basketball as the season progresses! Not to mention that you two have also made Reise Speller very angry, because he is hands down sick and tired of having to redirect you two every single day to keep your rude, disrespectful, offensive and derogatory comments to yourself, as well as reporting your comments for harassment or bullying! You, LIL MAN THE O.G. and greatness3928, have deliberately ruined the Cleveland Cavaliers with that trade!

  14. man struss and cpj couldve been turned into something to get us under for sure. We won't need them with the moves we made

  15. Why do all of you guys at UCSS forget that Thomas Bryant is on the team and is legitimately productive in his minutes in the big rotation? Same with Nae’Qwan Tomlin.

I don’t think it’s a matter of Kenny’s trust. I think under ideal circumstances, Jarrett and Evan play all those minutes.

  16. Zero credibility Opie Taylor…Allen is better player than Zupac…go back to Jersey Opie Nuggets-PUNK

  17. The Pacers will struggle next year also. And when the hell is Strus coming back?Does anyone know? Can you imagine Kawai on the Cavs. Is that possible. Man that would be dope as hell.
