One lucky SOB. Bought it for 285 mil, sold it for 3.3 bil, and buying back at 2.5 bil I wouldn’t pay more). Luka is coming back for sure. That will be the only reason he would buy back – to fix things.

Nick, you forgot another potential reason the Adelson would be interested in selling the Mavericks and that is potentially owning a new expansion team.
The rumors if the NBA is thinking of adding two new expansion teams one in Seattle and the other is Las Vegas!
So if they're failing legalizing (corrupting) gambling in Texas. I'd assume it'll be easier to just sell the Mavericks and buy the new team in Las Vegas.
