The New York Knicks just “spanked” the Philadelphia 76ers, and the vibes at the All-Star break are… complicated. While the Knicks are flying high after a dominant win in Philly, the debate is heating up: Are the Knicks actually in a better position under Mike Brown than they were with Tom Thibodeau?

In this segment, we break down the “one day only” comparison between the Tibbs era and the current Mike Brown administration. From Jalen Brunson’s reduced minutes to the improved bench depth and the team’s reliance on the three-point shot, the data tells a fascinating story.

  1. I don't care about anything Mike Brown does unless he gets past the Conference Finals. If he can't, Thibodeau is better.

  2. The reality the Knicks have figured it out. Too much season attention destroys the bogey of the Athletes for the playoffs. So New York is trying play but conserve the physical condition of this team .

  3. I would like at some point in the playoffs to see a lineup of Clarkson, McBride, Alvarado, Mitch and OG together.. I think they would really hammer 2nd teams with a Knicks lead….

  4. I don't know why everyone keeps going back & fourth on this. We won't know if the Thibs firing is justified, till we see if the Knicks make it to the finals. If they fall short again, then its just same old knicks no matter who the coach is!

  5. is it? the knicks haven't made it to a finals so its too early to judge. unless mike brown wins the east and gets to a finals he isn't any better than thibs

  6. How are they Grossly inconsistent that makes NO SENSE, They have won 10 out of the last 12. Gezzed the Pistons lost to the Wizards. Know Basketball brothers and Relax!

  7. I think you guys are forgetting that there was a lot of fear and trepidation because the Knicks were getting their butts kicked all last year during the regular season by the very best teams in the NBA. When you add that in with the fact that the starting five was playing way too many minutes because the bench was not given a chance to play meaningful minutes, I think quite a few of us were concerned that at some point the other shoe would drop and the Knicks would disappoint Us in heartbreaking fashion. True, it didn't happen when most of us thought it would when they played Boston but to have it happen when they played Indiana made it that much more painful. Mike Brown is helping this version of Knick's reach their highest potential. Of course there's going to be games when we're going to lose big but that's because the regular season is for experimentation something that never happened under the previous coach That is much more than what I felt about our team last year with the way that we were being coached

  8. How are we “The Knicks” inconsistent? Are we not 15 games over 500? Are we not 5 or 6 games behind Detroit? With the new additions, I think we are good!!!

  9. I do think Mike Brown is a better overall NBA head coach than Thibs because Mike Brown made an NBA Finals in 2007 as a head coach while Thibs never made an NBA Finals as an NBA head coach and has a 48-55 playoff record.

As a Knicks head coach, Thibs is a better Knicks head coach than Mike Brown.

  10. Definitely in a better place. Players get injured when they’re playing too much, like you said, not to mention how worn out they are by the time the playoffs roll around. Thibs got fired because he refused to use the bench like he was told to do. And last I heard he wasn’t head coaching in the NBA. He’s been a head coach for a hundred years and never won anything.

  11. The minutes thing Evan brings up really needs more context. The Knicks bench this year is way deeper than last year – they traded a ton of depth for KAT and even some for Bridges, plus losing iHart to FA. If you look at MPG 2 years ago when the Knicks had a stronger bench, you see a big difference in minutes averaged per game. This isn’t to completely excuse how Thibs manager the roster he had last season, but let’s be fair.

  12. Starters are averaging less minutes per game under Mike Brown this regular season compared to Thibs last regular season

Last year JB played 35.4 mins per game

This year JB is playing 34.6 mins per game

Last year Hart played 37.6 mins per game

This year Hart is playing 30.6 mins per game

Last year Bridges played 37 mins per game

This year Bridges is playing 34.5 mins per game

Last year OG played 36.6 mins per game

This year OG is playing 33 mins per game

Last year KAT played 35 mins per game

This year KAT is playing 31 mins per game

  13. Let’s be VERY clear, the Knicks made it as far as they did because of their RIDICULOUS shot making, had 8% to do with Tom’s PREDICTABLE coaching.

  14. 😊 Calibration is word for the Knicks. Coach Brown needs to calibrate lineups rather than situational substitutions. Clarkson, Kolek, Diawara, Shamet, & now Alvarado & Sochan need to know their roles within certain lineups. So when playoffs roll we can expect production instead of hoping game to game.

  15. I also have a feeling the Knicks aren't trying to play all of their cards against Detroit.

  16. Thibs has a tendency of. Overusage of his stars: With brunson it worked last year. He put up historic numbers and we advanced but we also seen the reverse of all that usage with Julius randle who sunk in the playoffs, due to the constant star lebron james treatment thibs gave him.

  17. What you're saying about the Knicks and living and dying by the 3, is not an indictment on them. It's an indictment on the entire nba. This is why there are no dynasties anymore. you can't rely on consistently making most of your 3's without prime steph. It's a make or miss league and all teams are shooting 3's. Every team. So no matter who you are, what team you play on, you're going to lose when you shoot a bunch of 3's and miss. It's why the knicks just spanked the C's again. it's not a new york problem it's an nba problem. and when the knicks don't hit their 3's and other teams do, they will lose. because THIS is how basketball is sadly played now around the league.

  18. Shamet looks like a completely different player. He’s been much more aggressive and confident, and he’s had some good shooting games. None of this would have happened with thibs coaching. They need Shamet’s shooting regardless of how he’s not a great defender.
