Watching iso is so painful at times because most of the time they are just looking to score. Watching randle hit these dimes in the hawks game was such a great refresher
ayo and naz off the bench…with the development of bones. sprinkle clark, berringer, and terrance here and there in spot minutes, and you suddenly have a reliable bench. yes, the wolves can lose and win against any team, no matter who they have…as we saw with the pelicans and clippers losses.
Exactly. The recipe is clear. It just has to be committed to memory and repeated weekly. They can't keep having to go back to the cook book every month when they've forgotten how to bake the cake for five games.
Nah, this isnt new. They play like this for a game or a few games then they will be right back to iso ball and lazy defense. We've seen this pattern a hundred times.
I know hating on Finch goes in and out of style, but how crazy is it that we are like 18 months into the Ant+Julius era and only just now did he apparently have the idea, "hey, what if we had plays…. With both of them?"
Julius is a monster when he plays team basketball and hustles on defense. The Wolves can beat down anyone in the league when they show some energy and a semblance of offensive sharing.
I've watched 'Miracle' (the Kurt Russell film where he coaches the hockey team that beat the soviets in the 800's) about the a few times lately. And in that film Herb Brooks has a line that I think works for the Timberwolves as well: "Gentleman, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone." And quite honestly that sums up what I've been seeing from them lately, a bunch of guys playing hero ball with little urgency, especially when they're down. They're playing like they expect to be bailed out of whatever trouble they're in.
The thing you did not cover was that late in the game the coach put Bones and Ayo on the floor at the same time and dazzled the other team with a big speed change.
The speed of Ayo and Bones helps get the team to energized as well. Donte has been a problem due to some really stupid passes and decisions. Naz is also making some really silly shots and his defense is still suspect at best. If Ju and Ant realize that they can get their offense anytime, but it is a lot easier to get the rest of the team playing well first. I still think that Finch relies on his starting group too long. When they got up 30, the team got lazy and that would have been a great time to bring in Berenger and Phillips. Keeping this team motivated to play uptempo and together.
That's the quickest I've seen Randle get rid of the ball and create flow, impressive. And I'm Randle critic. The movement and passing of the team was very good indeed. Ayo to the rack is going to be fun!
It’s not hard to counter the Timberwolves. Lock them out of the paint to prevent easy buckets especially from Edwards and Randle forcing them to the 3 point line. At that point it’s almost a toss of the coin whether their shots will land or not. Even the slightest pressure will cause them to miss more often than not. The Wolves victory then depends on if their shots land. Edwards explained in a post game interview after their recent loss to the Clippers that they lost because their shots weren’t landing and they just need to make their shots and they’re good. The problem is he made it sound like landing their shots is a matter of luck rather than skill. That would explain the Wolves inconsistency.
For the people who say randle has lead the team in assist for the last 2 seasons, well duh the HC instills more confidence in him than any other person on the team including Ant…never forget that chris finch said the most important player on the team is Julius Randle
what if we go a step further and try something closer to a triangle-style offense?
For the starters, you could build the triangle around Ant / Randle / Jaden. Off the bench, you could run a similar triangle with Ayo / Bones / Naz — or mix and match these six so we always have a functioning 3-man “hub” on the floor and can run structured offense for basically all 48 minutes.
I’m thinking of the classic Bulls/Lakers triangle concept: constant spacing, automatic reads, and less “your turn / my turn” iso. If Ant is truly at that MJ/Kobe-tier ceiling, maybe a system like this elevates him even more than just spamming Ant–Randle two-man actions.
That said, I know the triangle can be hard to install and might be too slow/complex for the modern pace-and-space NBA.
The gravitational pull of Edwards and Randle is the foundation of this offense. It makes scoring easy for everyone else. If teams played man, Edwards and Randle would cook them in iso.
that gobert 2:42 i found it really funny, watching at 0.25x, he hits the rim first with his hand, released the ball at the same time, the rim bounce back to place then just launched the ball upwards.
Amazing how if they decide to play this kind of ball all the time (unselfish and focused), we’d be able to beat every team….Up to us and our drive as a team

The shooting of Donte, Naz and Ayo around the horn off an Ant double is crazy exciting!

Ayo and Bones played so nice off the bench. They both play with a style of fast pace intensity and hustle we badly needed

Ayos transition hustle is elite it’s a huge win for the team
H&G analysis is like Ant & Julius when they play like this. Unstoppable.
Great timberwolves basketball content!
Really like your videos bro!! Nice and short but great in depth notes keep them coming and go 🐺

Ayo fits Wolves visually.
