He’s had a 50 point game this year.

Whoa- watching the game and you called that Merrill would step up!
Harden doesn’t disappear in the playoffs. He is just wildly inconsistent in the playoffs. Last season playoffs is good example of this. His heroics led to 2 of the 3 Clippers wins against Denver, but he disappeared in 2 of the 4 losses. So imo he is kind of a net neutral in the playoffs.
However he is better than Garland in every facet of the game. Harden is a bad perimeter defender but he is an elite paint defender. There were some seasons between ‘16- ‘20 where he was statistically the best 1v1 paint defender amongst all guards. Availability is also very important. Even if Harden doesn’t produce or play well, just being on the court makes Donavan and every other teammates life more easier on offense. I wouldn’t say the Cavs are the favorites to the win East. Celtics and Detroit are still favorites over the Cavs imo. Especially Celtics, they have the best depth, the best perimeter defense, and the most playoff experience

Most of Hardens playoff struggles come from injured teammates every year and being left with bad lineups more than his "choking", everyone overlooks that cause they don't like him. Never lost a series he was favored in. Top 10 in 40 point playoff games. Top 7 with above 50%. He simply loses to finals teams with bad teams, it's honestly insane when you look at it.
"As he's gotten older" No james was always a great playmaker he led the league in assists in 2017 with 11.2 a game. Harden just never gets credit for what he does.

Harden will be so much of an upgrade over DG defensively, which is saying a lot. His size alone will help Atkinson hide him defensively so MUCH easier than he could with DG. Not only was DG such a liability on D that he'd get blown by, but it was no problem for bigger, taller guards to back him up towards the basket & get easy looks from the paint. For all of Harden's faults on D, he's simply too big to be bullied like that.

Garland never panicked. Hes just a fast paced guard. So I dmitch. You dont need two fast guards you need a slow paced one and fast one.
I have been impressed by Harden's interior defense. He has a lazy defensive style but does get steals and blocks. Maybe as a 3rd or even 4th scoring option with Mobley back will turn him into a 3 and D small forward.
