For once, I agree with colin. His abysmal defense and lack of offball activity make him a very singular player. he’s a very good offensive engine, but the roster has to be constructed with spry, athletic defenders who can shoot, and a rim running big to optimize him. otherwise his defensive and offball limitations are probably too much too overcome if they want to win a title
I think my biggest problem with Nick’s take on this is it’s a massive oversimplification.
Pelinka knows the Lakers need 3 and D wings… but these guys don’t just grow on trees, they’re the most premium trading asset on the market. Pretending that he’s not making the trade because he’s incompetent instead of the real reason, there’s so few available.
If you build the right team around him he’s going demolish any team in his way…he’s disrespectfully elite on offense, if you put another elite ball handler by him with 2 rim runners and solid 3 and d guys it’s essentially impossible to beat him unless you have the team Boston had that year..no other team was beating them
