If Kim just open her eyes she would see that she should be starting both Fulwiley and Richard and unleashing them!!! That old PG mentality is outdated.
After watching my Lady Tigers in their last 3 basketball games there's a whole lot to look forward to especially in the NCAA tournament. Yes, in those last 3 games the girls are only 2-1 with that home loss to South Carolina. What gives me a reason to be confident is how they lost that one, had they hit on their free throws as they almost always do, they also take the most free throws in the country and are 3rd in the country in "made free throws per game" so that loss wasn't a normal game or something I worry about becoming a problem. Then following that loss the girls went on the road to top 25 Ole Miss and were down most of the game. The Lady Tigers were actually down by 13 points at one point in the 3rd quarter and were down by 7 in the middle of the 4th quarter yet somehow won it by 8 points and were pretty much in control during the final minutes of the game, they hit their free throws and iced the game. It was maybe Kim Mulkey's best comeback since arriving in Baton Rouge to coach the Lady Tigers. A really good game that showed tremendous grit and determination, no quit in the Tigers and they fought the whole way through and were rewarded. Then today, there isn't much that can be said about a game where the Lady Tigers dominate from start to finish and win by 53 points against a conference opponent and score 108 points. What else can be said, oh they snagged 70+ rebounds or had 10+ 3's or their defense held Missouri to only 55 points? There isn't much to really highlight in a bleauxout like this other than bench points. The amount of Tigers who are capable scorers and especially since seeing Bella Hines getting important minutes and getting involved. This team already has what 6, 7 players that are averaging in double digits scoring? So they're very deep, they have excellent guard play with Johnson, Williams, Richard, Fulwily, and Hines. Then with an emerging star like Zachia Johnson starting to play well and is an undersized forward that gets dirty inside on the boards especially on the offensive glass! She's been really showing up and it's impossible to not play her in meaningful games and important minutes. So we have 3 swing players with her, Knox and Joyner, a true post player in Koval and that collection of guards from Richard, Hines, Fulwily, Williams, Johnson, and the list could go on and on. That's like 9 total players who are playing basketball at a very high level for the Lady Tigers Basketball team. This is almost a team that Kim Mulkey can call timeout and swap out all 5 players with 5 fresh players like I've seen some coaches in men's basketball do. That would be a great thing, having these 9 girls, 5 guards snd 3 between 5-11 and 6-3 that can play the post and a 6-5 low post player in Kate Koval that can get rebounds and post up, play with her back to the basket and really the only player that's a true low post threat and an inside player or true center on the roster. I took a peak at Dawn Staley's roster, how many "bigs" she had who were 6-3+ and was pretty amazed at how many players she has on her current roster that are post players with great size. I think I ended up counting like 4 maybe 5 girls that were atleast 6-3 tall, a few who were 6-5 and one that I think was 6-7 tall! That's a team that's won a lot of meaningful games over the last few seasons and they had the 39-0 season, they've beaten our behinds 18 in a row or something! So I looked at them to see how Staley built out her roster. She may have more centers or low post players than what most teams have but I was just really surprised at the amount of power forwards to centers she has on that team. Not to mention she has like a former #1 overall player and a former #3 overall player from their high school recruiting rankings! That isn't counting LSU Tigers current player, former South Carolina guard and former 5* player from South Carolina in Malasia Fulwily. She was a top 10 overall player and is from the state of South Carolina, was one of their best players who by the wayhad an amazing day today for the Lady Tigers and was draining 3's all day long! I think I heard the announcers saying she knocked down 6 three pointers today! I just hope she only takes OPEN threes going forward, she was hot today but I don't want to see her just jacking up deep shots because she had one very good game from deep! She can shoot the 3 if it's there, if we need a 3pt basket like we did the other night I'd prefer Williams or Johnson taking that shot. That's what I'd prefer, even Hines maybe over Fulwily but she was on the money today, most Tigers were. Great job, Great game, Geaux Lady Tigers 🐅 LSU!
