React Pod: Raptors use total team effort without Scottie in smackdown over Bucks

Will Lou goes live to discuss the Toronto Raptors’ 122-94 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. He shows love to Immanuel Quickley’s excellent outing, the promising signs from Jakob Poeltl, and Brandon Ingram handling the pressure well on both ends as the go-to guy with Scottie Barnes missing in action.

Three stars: Immanuel Quickley, Brandon Ingram, Jamal Shead
Gerald Henderson award: Ryan Rollins

  1. LOL I said this same comment at another Raptors based YouTube channel, and so instead of repeating myself here is my take on this game:

We cannot fall into the trappings of post All-Star NBA where above 500 teams are hooping and below 500 teams are figuring out every which way to innovatively tank for Draft picks. We looked in control and played consistent which is a plus but yeah I'm not at all going to pretend these Bucks rotations were ever meant to be winning basketball. Other teams have their tanks commanders on the court and the greenlight to do things in a regular season a coach would restrict as a shot diet and so it's pretty much what I saw by the Bucks. The good signs is Jakob is looking a bit healthier the bad news is RJ looks like he is playing through the pain on his strained knees. I think the medical staff need to have a talk with RJ about ramping up and not trying to rush his recovery because it looks like he's frustrated at just being another body on the court and wants to do more than his body is capable of right now. On the abundance of caution I would sit him out a few more games and go back to light contact practice because he is on a quick path to re-injuring himself if he plays like that. Jakobe is really coming along and taking Gradey minutes decisively and as much as I like to see the development I wonder what it means for Gradey that these younger guys are at a far steeper development curve than him, Gradey is plateauing that much is clear. Also I think the dump IQ peanut gallery is quite now for the moment because he is playing to his contract … that kind of includes me btw but had more caveats for conditions to his removal; so good on him. The Jakob and IQ duo really unlocks a big dynamic threat to opposing teams and today we just saw half of that duo contributing to scoring but when Jak can easily peel away for that push shot he does so well it's a menacing one-two punch and as Jakob recovers you can begin to expect that scoring punch more. BI is BI and he is here for the heroics and he delivers on that especially on shot blocks … damn. Lastly what can I say about Jamal and Mamu; I think they have been the best positive character additions that any team can hope for. Just dogs who are happy to go and do the thing they love at a high level without complaints and they do it so well within a team atmosphere by contributing first. I'm so impressed by them which say's so much about this teams scouting depth and their development pipeline. Two things that started to go South with Nick Nurse as the head coach … I think Nick wanted finished products so they were harder to develop while Darko is pushing the front office for more unpolished but eager to learn players who are just dogs by nature; those you can develop.

  2. Jakob looks a step slow in game speed but it doesn't look like his back hurts anymore. Splitting the C minutes for the next 9 weeks with CMB will be huge for both players

  3. It’s really hard to understand why Gradey Dick’s three-point shooting has become so disappointing this season.
