Amen Thompson is definitely not worth that huge extension but he is worth 30-36 million a year. An elite defensive tall wing that can be a decent playmaker and when the lanes are open he can attack the rim well. Thompson main issues:
He canāt shoot well outside of 5ft , his shot chart past 5ft are well below league average. His handles with the ball isnāt that good and isnāt a great creating enough separation to attack the rim consistently well. If Houston had more shooters who can space the floor heāll be scoring more

The rockets pulled the trigger TOO EARLY on the win now mode with the Kevin Durant acquisition. The team is clearly not good enough to win now even with a healthy Fred and Steven Adams. The young guys (mainly Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr and Amen Thompson) just have too many flaws in their game as is and, assuming that the Rochets are trying to WIN in the next 2-3 years, they won't have time to mature enough to fix them.
If the Rockets stuck to the rebuild plan and kept Jalen Green and kept developing these young guys, maybe 3-4 years from now you would have a legit title favorite. They went all-in thinking the team was good enough now, but KD doesn't move the needle enough to compensate for the numerous and obvious flaws of the young guys.
Imo, trade Thompson while his stock is through the roof and if you're still trying to win now, use the assets you get for him to go get another veteran/star-ish player that can actually help you win now.

What am I listening to lmao this channel speaks non sense. He isnt worth the max, but he has superstar potential because of his work ethic. He is already one of the best defenders in the nba. He already average close to 18 ppg with a limited offensive game. Dont forget that amen is an elite rebounder at his position, and he has shown flashes with his passing and dribbling. Its going to get scary once he has a shot.

He hits his ceiling which is a low chance which means he gets a jumper he is Scottie Pippen with MJ athleticism

Anyone else hear a lot what was said about Ben Simmons? They said he was a jumpshot away from becoming LeBron and it never came, meanwhile Ben made off like a bandit. Give Amen time to develop before paying all that money.

As a sixer fan I was telling people that Ben was trash from his rookie year forward. He got paid off pure hype. Never been more than a trash level nba player.
People said the same things about him. Yea he cant shoot but he can handle the ball. So what? If you cant shoot or finish what good is passing and ball handling? You need to be a threat to score in some way and this archetype isnt.
So then people over inflate the value of the defense. This archetype is a good not great defender. In order to be a great defender you must have high level shot blocking chops. Amen and and Ben were never high level rim protectors.
The only archetype of player that can be that bad on offense but still make it is the rim protecting center and even then they aren't star level players just role players.
If Houston is smart they will trade Amen before everyone in the league finds out what i just told you.
