Gradey Dick’s Future Could Be In Serious Doubt

After showing promise in his first two years, Gradey Dick has struggled significantly in Year 3, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to justify giving him meaningful minutes. The Raptors are faced with a tough decision: stick with a young player who isn’t producing or look elsewhere for contributors. Meanwhile, Jamison Battle has just been assigned to Raptors 905, raising more questions about internal development and opportunity. We break down what’s gone wrong for Gradey Dick this season, the factors behind his decline, and how it impacts the Raptors’ rotation and long-term plans. With minutes being precious and expectations rising, his struggles highlight the difficult choices the team must make and the uncertainty surrounding his future in Toronto.

  1. Gradey never lived up to his expectations. Put him on the 905, boot camp is the best for these type of players break from their comfort zones.

  2. Yeah i honestly never seen it with gradey and was surprised we even drafted him as he wasnt really in the mold of the typical player we go after. His early second season had me excited and being 6’8 also had me intrigued but i honestly i still dont see it. Very unfortunate as i do like him and want to see him do well but at this point he’s replaced Ocachi as the next in line to face the chopping block. I dont see why battle cant do what he supposed to do and hopefully he can get packaged for help elsewhere. Prove me wrong Gradey pleasee!!!!

  3. Dick would not even be protected in an expansion draft at this point. When is he a free agent so the Raptors can just let him walk? Would have no trade value.

  4. You can literally link Gradey's downfall to the acquisition of RJ and Quickley. Look at his stats before then, when he was balling before he got hurt. Then he got hurt, we made the trade and hes never been back to that player since.

  5. To me Gradey needs a change of scenery.
I want FO to get aggressive this offseason and trade: RJ + Gradey + 2029 first top 9 protected = Andrew Nembhard + Obi Toppin. They could use RJ as scoring wing with other better Def at that area. I expect T Haliburton back and healthy. Yes they can play 2 pg lineup but there is some value in RJ. Gradey and Johnny F can compete for that place on roster. OBI foot could be a challenge and he is now a tough contract we take on.
This allows IQ to be 6th man but still getting 24-27 mins a game at PG/SG more off ball. With CMB living up to his top 10 draft pick you could run BI, SB, CMB as 3 wings where you use them to their talents both sides of the ball.
We would need to keep Sandro and Shead then draft a C that we could play some with Jak and TJ-D. I would rehab Obi T and see if we could trade him at deadline 2027 or offseason as expire. You would want Ja’Kobe, A Martin and J Battle to give some wing 😊mins. This would make us a bigger team and take us from 2 good def in starter 5 to 4 even though shooting stays about the same.
One of the strategies here is continue to improve while burning time off some of the bad contracts until they can be moved or made serviceable.

  6. Yea. It's time to give Battle a legit chance. Enough with playing Gradey so much over Battle, Lawson, and Martin just because he was a 1st Rd pick. That was 3 years ago and Gradey has had his fair chance. Wrong guy was sent down to the G League.

  7. He's a 3 point shoter who struggles to shoot three pointers. The expectation was that this would normalize over the course of his career. And yet, here we are, year three, and he still can't shoot them

  8. Todays game the bucks seemed like they were targeting Gradey. Whoever he was guarding or if they switched off a screen it was a greenlight to go to the rim.
