Rick, I appreciate your honesty bro. I hate that you have to call this BS out time after time. I swear it gets so old and frustrating. It will never stop but I’m glad there’s individuals like yourself that are able to call it what it is. SMDH
The problem is deeper than a few kids making monkey noises. Public education in this country has gone to shit the last 25 or so years.
If we had good leadership in so far as public education is concerned in this country we could do a reasonably good job of cutting this problem out early in life.
I'm a Gen-X, I'm from the first generation in this nation to begin school with the civil rights legislation of the late 60's in place. One of the biggest (and best imo) benefits grom that was that education was re-tooled with the emphasis that, atleast in the classroom, ALL students begin school as equals. Equal treatment of all students by all staff and other students.
Bigotry was severely frowned upon. Punishment could be severe, suspensions and after school detentions were always on the menu.
However, the punishment was usually an educational one. I was never the recipient of this extra education form of punishment (my misbehavior was not racially motivated) but, I knew kids that were made to stay after school or were given an in-school suspension where they were forced to watch movies that focused on some really ugly stuff in an attempt to solicit some ammount of empathy for minorities. Supposedly the movies for older students were quite graphic.
However because we were indoctrinated from day one with a curriculum that emphasized our nation's new way of addressing the problems of racism, religious bigotry, misogyny ect. The majority of us bought it from the get go. It was probably the easiest and most rewarding lesson we were given throughout our education.
We could start nationwide with next years' kindergarteners….
If we could get some leadership that would be willing to take this problem on
