Hawks’ “Magic City Monday” Sparks NBA Controversy

Hawks’ “Magic City Monday” Sparks NBA Controversy

The Hawks are drawing national attention ahead of their March 16 matchup against the Orlando Magic at State Farm Arena — and not everyone is celebrating.

Atlanta plans to host a “Magic City Monday” promotion, paying homage to the iconic Magic City with lemon pepper wings, exclusive merch, and appearances from local legends like T.I.. The team describes it as a tribute to a cultural institution in the city.

But Luke Kornet has publicly criticized the promotion, saying the NBA should strive to protect and esteem women — arguing that allowing the night to go forward without protest could reflect poorly on the league and risk promoting objectification.

So where’s the line?

Is this simply clever wordplay and a nod to Atlanta culture?
Or does tying an NBA game to a strip club’s brand — even indirectly — cross a boundary for a league that markets itself as family-friendly?

In this video, we break down:
– Kornet’s full comments and what they mean
– The Hawks’ official stance and marketing strategy
– The cultural significance of Magic City in Atlanta
– Whether this is harmless fun or a slippery slope
– And why this debate says something bigger about sports, branding, and values

Both sides have strong opinions — and this one goes beyond basketball.

  1. We have kids/family nights; why not adults night. It is a Monday after all. Shouldn’t kids be doing homework and getting ready for school the next day

  2. The fact you guys are tiptoeing around and calling it “that kind of establishment” speaks volumes.
Not a good look, just my opinion.

  3. The people have spoken, the tickets are sold out and went for a lot. The city looking forward to it.

  4. This is what happens when Leftist control your City & infest a Sports Franchise. Anything would be better than "Magic City" night. I guess next we will have "Trap House" night. Please Atlanta Residents stop voting for these Leftist Politicians because it 100% connects to the dumb stuff the Hawks have done since this revamp of the Hawks Imagine around 2018.
