RECAP: A Fiddy Loss 2 Remember.

Russell Westbrook 1,000, Sacramento Media 0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Zion Williamson had 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists under 29 minutes, and the New Orleans Pelicans gifted the Sacramento Kings their 50th loss with a 122-123 decision on March 5.

Trey Murphy III generated 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, and Saddiq Bey added 20 points for the Pelicans (20-44, 9-23 on the road). Bryce McGowan added 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal off the bench.

Precious Achiuwa had 29 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal in nearly 41 minutes for the Kings (14-50, 9-22 at Golden 1 Center), who haven’t lost 50 games in a season since the 2021–22 (30–52) campaign.

Russell Westbrook had 19 points, 10 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Malik Monk had 18 points off the bench. Drew Eubanks contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Following the game, Westbrook, who has been respectful with the local media for the majority of the season, had a bone to pick with the press. This time, he had questions, and it was present and clear that he wanted answers.

The 18-year NBA veteran expressed how hard it has been for the team this season, but also lamented how he and his teammates have been unfairly, in his opinion, covered during a disappointing season.

“I think the respect level is that we respect yall. We respect what y’all do,” Westbrook said. “Yall come in, then yall make yall comments, and nobody say nothing. I don’t have to sit back and say nothing…but as the leader of this team, it’s my job to speak up for the guys in the lockerroom.”

Additional 50 or more losses in a season for the Kings:
.2017-18: 27-55
.2014-15: 29-53

Another Milestone for Deebo.
With his field goal at the 2:10 mark of the opening quarter, DeMar DeRozan has passed Stephen Curry (26,447) for 19th on the NBA’s all-time scoring leaders list.

Curry last played on Jan. 30 in a Warriors’ loss against the Detroit Pistons. He has been sidelined with a right knee injury and is expected to miss further action, with a re-evaluation scheduled.

Out: Keegan Murray (ankle), De’Andre Hunter (eye), Zach LaVine (finger), and Domantas Sabonis (back and knee).

KINGs: Host the Chicago Bulls on March 8.
