Russ makes near vet minimum. This team is actively tanking and holding players out to lose. 3 startwrs wouldnt start on any other team. Coach can't coach. Sabonis wants out..lavine wants out…the players they drafted are terrible, the rest of the team is castoffs. Russ is no more erratic than anyone else. This guy is an all time great. What did d'aron fox bring? What did he bring last year? He quit on the team and they were trash. The organization is trash. Russ is with the kings because he only wanted to play in California near his family. He said that when he left denver. He's still better than many pgs in the league. He does more than "play hard". This is lazy journalism…finding a guy others criticize and jump on the bandwagon.
Whats funny is Russ isnt even going to be here next season so all this is moot. I havent agreed with half of Matt's takes but this is another case of an NBa player being too sensitive. This is the same person that gets into altercations with fans for calling him WestBrick. Cmon yall. Lets move on

I understand both sides, but without specifics, Westbrook's diatribe falls flat. If you are going to open the floor to complain about unfair coverage, but then fail to provide a single example, you just come across as someone who can't take criticism. Yes, he dared the media to ask questions and most stayed quietāprobably to avoid a Parliament-style screaming match. But when Chris Biderman specifically asked him what was said that he didn't approve of, Westbrookās response was that he 'didn't want to get into that right now.' Well, which is it? You can't pick a fight with the room and then refuse to throw a punch when someone actually steps up.
The STATS donāt lie. The meaningful ones that winning organizations look at and track. Are they getting their best out of the players they have? Maybe. Are they āplaying to the standardā Doug keeps saying after every loss? Clearly not. So we need the organization to be honest with what they want to do the rest of the year. If itās prioritize youth development, quit playing Russ so much.
53.1% TS, 3.4 TOV/game, -2.6 net impact rating, on a 14-49 team without its stars. DeRozan is way more efficient right now than Russ and weād be better if he had the ball more. But at PG? Those starting minutes should be Carterās or someone else they want to develop. Thatās not a blanket stain on his legacy. Itās what fans would rather see, and what the organization keeps being wishy washy about. Thatās not Russās fault. Heās taking charge because nobody else seems to be. Doesnāt change that we donāt need him in this role.

Just want to say that this is the first I'm hearing of you Matt, and I actually am on your side on this. And I thought I should voice that to counterbalance the very one-sided comment section in what little way I can.
Firstly,
The people all harping on you/others "folding" or voice cracking need to grow up. Different people can react different ways to the pressure of a situation like that, with the energy/emotion Russ was bringing to it, being a highly competitive athlete who's in a struggling situation right now. Plus the social anxiety of being surrounded by peers & cameras & microphones, feeling like everybody is watching you, judging you because you don't know how much they know about the situation. Just because someone struggles to articulate their thoughts in a spot like that (which I would argue the vast majority of people would) that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to attempt to later. Because if Russ means what he says then what should really matter here are the actual thoughts, the points, the open dialogue, etc… it shouldn't be about who can best resist being overcome by anxiety and "crumbling". Like what?
Secondly,
I love Russ, but you have a right to your opinion, and your opinion in this case is a pretty logical/understandable one. I can also understand Russ for not liking the idea of someone saying he's only out there "chasing milestones", but assuming he heard the overall take surrounding that sentence, I think it's a little crazy of him to interpret that as a criticism of his personal intent. At least with how you laid it out here in this video, I'd say that there is no insinuation of what his intent may be; that's irrelevant. He very well may be achieving the milestones merely by doing what he feels is best for helping his team win. That doesn't contradict anything about your argument, in the way that it has been described.

Hilarious. Westbrook is frustrated because his team is trash and he doesn't contribute anything to winning games (we're all shocked). He couldn't back up any of his claims and yet somehow this turned into "you're a coward" because this guy didn't want to get into a heated argument on his job. Utterly brainless.
You said if you had the chance you would tell Russell how you felt about his role and lack of contribution to the team. You were given that chance, and you folded. Running to your podcast to talk for 25 minutes after you passed on the chance to have a conversation right then is at the heart of his problem with "journalists" like you.
Post game interviews are more interesting than the games themselves at this point. Shout out to Sacramento media for keeping it real. If anything most Sacramento media came into the season thinking the vets would ruin our draft picks for a play in run. Glad we are in the running for a high draft pick at this point.

8:46 worst Kings Team all time? How long have you been in Sacramento? 08/09 team was straight trash.. Bobby Brown, Spencer Hawes, Sheldon Wiliams, with 17 wins and 65 losses that year. THE TEAM THIS YEAR has 3 Starters out for the year (sabonis, hunter, lavine), plus another starter out most the year (keagan). YET you do not take injuries into account when name the worst Kings team. SMH. HOWEVER, this team has 2 HALL OF FAME PLAYERS (demar/Russ) that are more Sacramento than you.
