Rotation Questions & Reality Checks for the Detroit Pistons After Two Tough Losses
On this episode of the Palace of Pistons Podcast, Aaron Johnson and Jasper Apollonia break down the Detroit Pistons’ recent losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs and what those games revealed about Detroit’s ability to compete with the NBA’s best teams. As expectations continue to rise around the Pistons this season, the guys analyze where Detroit struggled against elite competition and whether those issues could become a problem in the playoffs.
Aaron and Jasper dive into the biggest takeaways from both matchups, including Detroit’s offensive execution, defensive breakdowns, and the areas where the team still needs to improve if it wants to truly contend for an NBA championship. They also discuss the impact of star guard Cade Cunningham and whether the supporting cast around him is strong enough to match up with the league’s top contenders.
The episode also explores whether head coach J.B. Bickerstaff should consider making adjustments to the Pistons’ rotation moving forward. Should Detroit tighten the rotation, experiment with different lineups, or make strategic changes to compete with the league’s elite teams?
With the playoffs approaching and championship conversations beginning to heat up, the guys debate the biggest question surrounding the Pistons right now: Are the Detroit Pistons actually a legitimate NBA championship contender, or are they still a step behind the league’s top teams?

If the Pistons do not have a consistent shooter/scorer to step up btw now and the playoffs, they will make it outta the 1st rd and thats it. Teams now know that if you stop Cade, their chances of winning increases tremendously. Having another scorer outside of Cade and Duren will help. In the 2nd rd where we most likely will face Cleveland will be difficult bc Tobias, who could potentially be that 3rd option, will struggle against their length.
I think they're getting fatigued. They should rest Cade, Ausar, and Duren over this next stretch of games.

You sound crazy if think a MPJ would not have made the difference in those Spurs games. At the very least MJP's gravity would have opened up the paint. Giving Cade more room to operate. Always got these blinders on. The Spurs played Cade and the Pistons shoot the 3pt shot. Packed the paint. You don't think if MPJ one of the scorers and 3pt shooter in the league would not have thrived off of Cade wide open? I question some of you basketball IQ right. Wemby would have been forced to come out the paint both games if MPJ hit a couple of 3s. We are going to look back on this season possibly and realize this was this teams best shot and it was wasted.
Can’t wait for Trajan to be fired. What has he actually done?
Knicks are going up and looking great while the pistons are going down, getting tired and looking like frauds
