as a long time Prov College fan – going back to Geo Thompson and Lenny Wilkins on the team(and also a Memphis St grad (how about THAT!) i understand the position U Memphis is in. For MY area, it would be like Prov College FIRING Ernie D. , our NEIGHBORHOOD IDOL ( not to mentions hes at EVERY HOME game -( tho he's walked out of a lot this year disgust – we just fired our 3 yr coach) ) HE is the LITERAL GODFATHER OF BASKETBALL ( in a city and state RUN by the REAL MOB) in RHODEISLAND and Prov C SO Id give Penny one more year. Aside from that, where I live Penny is seen as a ROGUE , a JOKE, a PHONY with the "thanks to God " crap at all the post games, a CHEATER, and we understand here why NO CONFERENCE will acpect U Mem…Its considered TOO SHADY, too many scandals a DIRTY PROGRAM top to bottom HISTORICALLY
Any other coach would be judged on what the expectations are based on resume. What is your resume before you were hired here is the big difference and how expectations are set. Any other coach wouldn't be a guy who has never coached in this game. For what he has accomplished having never been on a college sideline as a coach in any capacity is unheard of. No one just walks into this business and wins 20 games a year, gets top recruiting classes, gets NCAA tournament wins and beats the best coaches in the game right off the street. As long as Coach Hardaway gets back to 20 wins and ncaa visits he should be on this job until he has a string of less than 20 games won and no chance at the tournament.
I didn't understand what he was saying until he clarified it with a steak or fish dinner choice analogy. Thanks for that
