I remember after the thunder loss and the sky was falling…Ryan told everybody to R-E-L-A-X. Kinda like Aaron Rodgers did. And now everything is looking up! 🤷
Great win yes.. however to look that bad for 3/4 of the game to a Wemby less Spurs team tough
As a Nugget fan the spurs are foreal we struggle against a wemby less spurs team. And their centers produce 0 points tonight. Its a win but I'm not bragging this for sure. I don't care how you dress it up how we won. The spurs lost were more impressive. I'm pretty sure they feel more confident now
Did Wemby even play
Tbh, I don’t think Wemby is chippy enough to handle AG and Jokic yet. Since he’s so tall, they’ll probably be allowed to check him however they want. The Nuggets and the Rockets might be the only real mismatches for him until he gets used to that physicality. Personally, I see this game as a defining one. I could also underestimate how much growth a do or die environment like the playoffs could trigger in him, so who knows.
I said it in a comment on the previous video, after the game against Houston. In today's NBA, everything revolves around matchups.
Denver's defense doesn't usually become randomly good or bad depending on the day. Houston doesn't have tall, skilled point guards who can attack the rim in isolation plays, nor do they have shooters, and finally, they don't have a shooting center to force Nikola to the perimeter. All of this makes Denver's defense easier, as they struggle a lot against those types of players. As I already mentioned in yesterday's comment, the opposite is true for San Antonio, which is a very bad defensive matchup for Denver. It's also a bad offensive matchup, but only when Wembley plays.
About the game:
1. DA almost ruined the game once again by insisting on playing those Nikola/Jonas + 4 very short perimeter players lineups. It didn't work tonight, it didn't work yesterday, it didn't work against OKC, and it has never worked.
2. CB is a good perimeter defender when guarding a smaller point guard who lacks a good mid-range shot or isn't particularly skilled/quick at driving to the basket in one-on-one situations. When defending players like SGA, Vassel, or Castle, his defense is very poor, as these players create space and CB isn't tall enough or has long enough arms to influence their shot.
3. We need CB, Cam, Spencer, BB, AG, PWatt, THJ, and Strawther to spend hours shooting from the corners. If we can get them to a decent and consistent percentage, the offense becomes much simpler. We've struggled offensively when the Spurs have been able to pack the paint because Denver was unable to make open three-pointers.
4. Many of us in the comments have been saying this for weeks. Why isn't Spencer playing? From being a key player with AG and PWatt injured, he's now playing less than 15 minutes per game. Jones is the player on the roster who best complements Jamal and Nikola. He defends the perimeter and the paint perfectly, can switch, box out, fight for both offensive and defensive rebounds, and has a three-point shot when open. Furthermore, he's very intelligent and moves well on offense, understanding what the team needs.
