God the commentator is drunk on SA gaming/cheating the system and grabbing Wemby and Castle after loosing for 8 years straight to get them, aka. doing absolutely nothing sports-concerned or competition-concerned to get where they are now for basically a decade.
Feels somewhat strange to hear the commentary party down and having the time of his life when the thing is – you 'worked' towards being as good as you are now by loosing and, pretty often, loosing on purpose. How ethical did basketball feel to you 4 years ago, San Antonio? Fighting the good fight, you think?
I don't even know what I want the commentator to do, I just know that party atmosphere and exuberance on display here is undeserved af and was achieved via tanking heavily ( you know, the thing that is forbidden to do as per the rulebook ), so get a grip on the jovial patronising as if you worked hard for your standing – in the commentary at least.
If I had to point towards the most problematic thing in the entire NBA, right now – not flopping, not stat padding, not load managing, not the AllStar game, no traveling calls or a worthless 82 game 'preseason' and also not all of them being friends and not competitors. None of those.
I'd say it's SA being so good only by means of SA being so bad for years and years, having gotten Castle and Wemby solely through sheer manipulation of the system over multiple years. Incentive and reward just do not match, and a happy commentator seemingly dismissing all of that is the serious ragebait cherry on top.
And who will stop ANY other team now trying the same? Who will take care of the league not turning into 20 teams trying to win and 10 teams trying to loose as much as they can? No one. For what I think you brought upon the NBA and basketball, SA, check back to watch some games in 2034 and see what I meant.
And you still laugh and party down as if you deserve it. It really makes me so angry, the no self-reflection, the talk of ethical ball and the success of unsportsmanlike tanking, all either praised or glossed over by a commentator drunk on his team's success. They do play good ball, tho. I just loved it if they did it with an ounce of reflection, meaning an ounce of humility, just to acknowledge that the team was assembled by gaming the system heavily; and that this gaming of the system might have been morally troubling and competitionally distorting while it went on. For years.
Feels like snatching a peace price before you start three wars – somewhat ridiculous, if you think about it for more than three seconds.
