Should Phoenix Suns Leave Jalen Green UNPROTECTED In Expansion Draft?

Should Phoenix Suns Leave Jalen Green UNPROTECTED In Expansion Draft?

The Phoenix Suns will face tough decisions in the near future as the NBA is expected to expand to 32 teams with franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle. With league expansion comes expansion drafts, and the Suns must decide which eight players on the roster that they want to protect to keep untouchable in said draft, with the decision around Jalen Green being among the biggest.

The league’s new franchises would have the opportunity to add anyone outside of the Suns’ protected eight, adding some gravity to the decisions. PHNX Suns debates which players should be untouchable, who among the roster would be nice to keep, and the group of players the franchise should be okay with losing in an expansion-draft scenario.

  1. Colin is too inconsistent to be that high on this list. …and Brooks, he gave the Suns an identity this year. The last game against the Celtics is why we need Mark.

  2. Dillon Brooks needs to be in that untouchable bracket. No way this rebuild is as effective or possible without his energy. – Frank

  3. For me in no particular order:

    Untouchable:
    – Booker
    – Brooks

    Want to Keep
    -Oso
    -Gillespie
    -Allen
    -Maluach
    -Fleming
    -Wiliams
    -O'Neal

    Borderline
    -Green
    -Dunn
    -Coffey
    -Bouyea
    -Highsmith
    -Goodwin

    Whatever
    -Brea
    -Huntley
    -Livers

I could be talked into moving Brooks to Want to Keep, but the difference with and with out him on the court has been almost as noticeable as with and with out Booker. Green hasn't made a noticeable impact and is making an absurd amount of money relative to what he provides so I would wouldn't mind if he was taken in the expansion draft and got that money off the books. I don't know enough about Coffey to have a strong opinion, he looks okay. Williams looked poor late in the season but seemed like he was playing through an injury and was a breath of fresh air for the team through the first half of the season. O'Neal's offense, size, and rebounding make him one of the most under rated players on this team, he's got his flaws but we lack forward depth and he's literally shooting over 40% from 3 on the year.

Since this gives me a top 9, basically anyone from the want to keep could be excluded, but it'd probably be O'Neal if I was forced to choose, just because of his age. Second choice, maybe Williams since we have Center depth, but Maluach has a lot of growing still to do.

  4. those are the top 8, Mark Wlms, and Dunn have just been too inconsistent, Goody and Highsmith, just don't crack that top 10. And the other 3, are good guys, but not necessary or top talent, or for Royce age.

  5. Dillon Brooks has changed the entire culture of the team, especially on D. He's definitely untouchable.
