Gil’s Arena ERUPTS Over Russell Westbrook’s Greatness as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil’s Arena Crew react to Russell Westbrook becoming a top 5 assist man in NBA history and get into a hostile debate over Westbrook’s complicated legacy due to his relationship with teammates like Kevin Durant & LeBron James and inability to win an NBA Championship.

The Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

  1. Kd already said the reason why he left wasn’t just because of Russ. It was a combination that he felt like his game had stagnated due to him and Russ being the only players that can score. The team also didn’t have good spacing to open up Kd game in okc vs what you see in golden state enes, adams, Roberson great role player guys but they needed more spacing to open up the floor.

  2. I understand what the people are saying about him joining the team that beat him but I think he was doing it to make a statement. LeBron makes this weak move going to Miami because he couldn't win in Cleveland but yet sports shows are still hyping him. So just to stick it to the media, LeBron and Westbrook, I'ma join a juggernaut, win a couple and see what y'all have to say about that 😂😂😂. Those emojis aren't me laughing but think that's how KD felt

  3. Kevin Durant took the easiest route possible to win a championship and I don't respect that. Dude joined the best team in the planet to win his rings smh

  4. KD CHOKED in that 3-1 series. Every 4th quarter Russell would have to force him the ball for him to score.

  5. I have said probably every post about them I have no problem with kd leaving after what 9 years and we haven't won anything I would leave to but leaving for the team that beat you is crazy

  6. How he a ball hog and he top 5 in assists all time? Plus kd lead the league in scoring 4 times while they played tg?

  7. KD left Westbrook bc he wanted to be a driver, and went to GSW where he still wasn’t the driver. Skip & Gil don’t make sense.

  8. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook…
Let me be clear Russell Westbrook is a great player. A Hall of Famer, no question. But being great doesn’t automatically make you a great first option.
At the point guard position, it’s not just about how much you do it’s about when and how you do it.
    Kevin Durant didn’t need chaos.
    He needed control.
    He needed:
    Better shot selection
    Fewer turnovers
A steady rhythm to keep the team engaged
Instead, the approach often felt like:
    Drive and kick every play
    Force the issue
    Take tough, ill-advised shots
    Overextend possessions
    Yes, the triple-doubles are impressive.
Yes, the MVP season was historic.
But ask yourself: Did that style translate to deeper playoff success as the primary option?
Basketball is about flow, timing, and trust.
When one player dominates the usage too heavily, it can leave the team disconnectedunsure of their role when the ball isn’t in their hands.
Sometimes the strongest move isn’t doing more…
    It’s doing less, but better.
Russell Westbrook didn’t need to prove he was “that guy.”
He needed to optimize the team around him.
And with a player like Kevin Durant?
That balance becomes even more critical.
    Greatness isn’t just about numbers
it’s about results, rhythm, and making everyone better.

  9. Yeah they’re stupid. It would make the most sense if Kevin won a ring after Golden state too but he didn’t. Failed in Brooklyn, failed in Phoenix, and will most definitely fail in Houston too with how things are going. He was never a bus driver, simple as that.

Russ wasn’t a driver too, but at least he left OKC with them picks and bright future.

KD left them for nothing. KD left them to rot and die.

  10. People like Pirate are necessary because they bring logic to these conversations, not revisionist history by individuals who weren't even around to see the player they are discrediting

  11. KD wasn’t driving in Dub nation either. Matter of fact now it looks like he’s the lousy driver. When things go wrong he blames everyone else. Far from leadership material..

  12. Youngest team to go to finals and knocking on the door as soon as both were both healthy after injuries to them both. OKC had the talent but lacked playoff coaching.

  13. Arguing unconfirmed opinions like they're facts is crazy. Just make something up and stand on it…..

  14. This is why real basketball conversation is important. A mf will try to bury you with lies

  15. Kd took 168 ( field goal attempts ) 42 ( 3 point attempts) 56 free throws
While Westbrook had ; ( 151 field goal attempts) 50 free throws and (41 3 point attempts)
Yet yall thought it was Westbrook fault all along but it was mainly KD fault because they had a 3-1 lead .
    Stats don’t lie
