Revisiting the Dillon Brooks trade: Houston Rockets Vibe Check

Revisiting the Dillon Brooks trade: Houston Rockets Vibe Check

Did the Houston Rockets actually get better after trading for Kevin Durant?

After ESPN ranked the top NBA transactions since last summer, a surprising debate has sparked: was the Suns acquiring Dillon Brooks actually more impactful than the Rockets landing Kevin Durant?

On paper, Houston brought in a superstar to push them over the top—but the results haven’t matched expectations. The Rockets are struggling with consistency, their defense has slipped, and their playoff ceiling might be lower than expected.

Meanwhile, Dillon Brooks has made a major impact, bringing toughness, defense, and energy—raising questions about team chemistry and identity in Houston.

In this episode, we break down:
– Why the Kevin Durant trade hasn’t fully delivered (yet)
– Dillon Brooks’ unexpected impact with Phoenix
– Whether Houston is actually in a better position than last season
– The Rockets’ biggest mistake at the trade deadline (not adding depth)
– How injuries to Fred VanVleet have exposed roster issues
– Growing pressure on the front office and coaching staff

Plus, we discuss whether standing pat at the deadline—passing on players like Jose Alvarado—could come back to haunt Houston during the playoff push.

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about stats—it’s about chemistry, fit, and whether this team is trending in the right direction.

  1. They didn't need a trade for KD, they needed a real motion offensive system. They screwed up big by extending udoka, and listing to him on roster moves. That is where stone did make a huge mistake, but stone doesn't need to be fired yet.

  2. These guys are dumb their missing Vanlet and Adam's are better than the rockets last year now … imagine what they would be with those 2 … last year rockets team was together multiple yrs and only accomplished a 1st rd exit

  3. I think it’s silly to say a team’s season where they are missing two of their most important players is a failure if they don’t make it to the conference finals.

No other team would have that expectation missing two of its most important players on the roster

  4. R dis guys bots or are they not watching the game . The rockets are a better team with KD . Rockets are playing without fvv and adams, sengun not the same player but they still in the 4th place . Dis team without KD and all the injuries might not even make the play in

  5. It's absolutely amazing. I watch a lot of rockets podcast, and I do mean a lot, and you can definitely tell who the corporate ones are, because they can and do tend to think and act "corporately", machine-like, often missing the forest for the trees. No exceptions here.
