The Media RUINED The NBA MVP Award…

Rachel DeMita breaks down the NBA MVP race after Victor Wembanyama made his case following a big Spurs win — and why his comments have sparked major debate across media and fans.

She dives into why Wemby’s defensive dominance and overall impact go far beyond the box score, and how the San Antonio Spurs have exceeded expectations this season. Rachel also calls out the media for getting it wrong all year, from narratives around Wemby to the lack of respect for Luka Dončić, while breaking down the full MVP field including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokić.

  1. SHAI IS THE MVP. All these guys are just now starting To play great meanwhile SHAI has been consistent all season long. Thunder had a lot of injuries in the starting lineup but still Shai showed up even sat through a lot of 4th quarter due to big leads. before yall start crying he was having 30points easy in the 3 quarters he did play.

  2. The problem with your take is that you are trying to be fair, smart, and methodical. You need to learn from ESPN and pick an arbitrary reason to hate a player, and belittle their accomplishments, that's how a real journalist does it! /jk

In all seriousness, I loved your take. MVP are the players who, by impact, can change the whole face of a team. Jokic, Wemby and Luka are my picks.

  3. Luka does himself no favors will all his bitching and moaning to the refs. That part of his "game" alone puts him out of the MVP conversation for me. Only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner.

  4. And yet you forgot to mention how understaffed the Thunder have been all season and yet still the best in the league…clueless, just like the media.

  5. When you lose the Best player gets criticism Shaq MJ LeBron Giannis all did before they won chips so when the Lakers were playing bad earlier in the year he got criticism and yes he has yet to win a championship not sure if you know the others were criticized for not winning it comes with being the best player on the team

  6. 16:03 Stephen A Smith has been mispronouncing Devin Vassell’s name forever, he’s def not watching the Spurs games

  7. Jaylen Brown is the obvious MVP and anyone that doesn't see that need their votes taken away, there's not one person in this universe that expected this from the Celtics, and that's because of Jaylen Brown's dominance.

  8. They won't give it to wemby, they will try to protect D Rose youngest mvp record, and Jordan's legacy, it's for the same reason he wasn't drafted in all star in his rookie year and it's for the same reason he didn't get DPOY that same year, all those journalists who grew up idolatring MJ will never allow a young French player to get this.

  9. i'm afraid the narrative around Doncic (and Jokic as well to a certain extent) has been extremely focused on what he's been "lacking" in comparison to previous seasons when in reality even if this wasn't his best season (debatable) he still is better than literally 99% of the league. the bias and subjectiveness of the media is astounding, it's like they have mvp fatigue for a player that hasn't even won it yet (even tho he probably should have, and has been in the mvp conversation for years now)

  10. You're wrong about Luka. The media is finally realizing to be alegit superstar in the NBA ,you have to play both offensively and defensively. Luka can't guard his on shadow, that's why a team lead my him will never stuff a NBA championship.

  11. What you need to understand is the MVP is not an award, but a marketing tool. They deliberately keep it vague on the requirements to win it, just so that people will argue about it every year and create buzz. It’s designed to cause chaos among the fandoms, not to actually find the best or most valuable player in the league. It’s just a marketing sham, and we’re all playing right into their hands by talking about it.😂

  12. If it comes to the last point. The Salary Cap IS NOT dropping.
Its just not going up as much as they anticipated before the season. Its still over 10 mio higher then this year.

  13. To me, BPM and VOR are the best summary of what a player brings to their team. Just looking at Box Plus Minus, Wemby's BPM this season is insanely high at 9.6. Problem is Shai's BPM is quite higher at 11.98. And both are dwarfed by the 14.35 BPM of Nikola Jokic, which happens to be the highest BPM ever recorded.

  14. Hollllld ur horseees on the Spurs a lil bit meow …they haven't played a playoff game in 7 years. The Rockets were last years surprise team being fringe play-in contenders and ended with the 2 seed…and lost in the first round

  15. Luka and joker are targeted consistently, they don't have the foot speed nor athletics to keep up on defense. Often times they don't even attempt to play defense.

That is not an mvp. IDGAF what their numbers on the offense are.

  16. If Wemby wants to score 35 points per game he can easily do. But SGA or Doncic can do what Wemby does anything else offensively and defensively?

And most of all, the NBA without Wemby would be so BORING!!!
