What contract would you be comfortable with the Nets offering Michael Porter Jr. this summer? Do you trust Sean Marks moving forward in the rebuild?
$30m a year for 4-5 years.
MPJ brought life back to the Nets brand
Egor can be Giddey with a J, if wolf, Powell, Demin, Saraf, Nolan, any of them become allstars there will be no question you have a decent GM.
Isnât it a wiser decision to trade MPJ?
MPJ doesnât deserve a pay cut.. Brooklyn shouldnât even consider keeping him if they canât pay him 40 on a team so close to the salary floor
I really think it depends on their draft slot and how quickly they want to contend. If they are unable to get Petterson and Aj, the two generational talents in this draft, then the pivot would need to be going after Giannis, and if they are going after Giannis, then MPJ needs to be in the long-term equation as that number two guy to compete.
MPJ is NOT worth $40 million for 3-4 years đŽđđđ….
He's a realistic THIRD option as he goes into his 30s đ§…. Would go as high as $30 million salary around a $90 million contract for 3 years with an OPTION on the third year đ§….
In terms of the rebuild, Sean Marks has set the table by creating cap space, cap maneuverability, and a war chest of unprotected draft picks going forward (most in the league). There is no way that Marks should only be evaluated based on last year's draft. He should be evaluated on an ongoing basis based on his moves, but last off-season, he deserves high marks for the MPJ trade, 2-year deals for Sharpe and Z Williams, and not over-paying for Thomas. The Nets got unlucky in the lottery, but based on this year, Egor appears to be fine for the 8th pick. I believe that Sean deserves at least until after the summer of 2027 to see where the Nets are, and better still, after the summer of 2028.
The case for after summer 2027: The Nets currently have plenty of cap space. It could be used this summer of the right opportunity presents itself, however, it can easily be extended to the summer of 2027 when there is a nice crop of FA's and the Nets could have the most cap space. They will also have this year's draft a high lottery pick and 2 decent second-rounders and 2 first-rounders in 2027.
The case for 2028: The young players will be more exoerienced and the Nets likely will have the Sixers first and the best first rounder amongst themselves, the Suns and Knicks. With flattened lottery odds that could turn out to be a very good player.
I don't see them offering him a big decrease in salary. The choices are either around what he's making now, or significantly more than he's making now. Three years $120 million is great value. In fact, if he agrees to sign here without testing the market, I would offer him a 4th year.
i wouldnt go past 3 years with his back injuries.
u guys forgot his back injuries over years?
I will be really happy if Benji can double his stats from this year. That would mean 13.4 pts, 6.4 assists, 3.2 rbds, 1.8 stls. But he's not doing that on a TS% under .500. He's got to fix his shot. It's too much over his shoulder instead of straight over his head, like Egor or MPJ.
Keep MPJ add another score guy next to him playoff next season resign cam as your 6th man get bigger
If you are okay with mpj how can you not be okay with him at the same price for as many years as he wants. He won a ring. He is a legitamate sharpshooter. Whether its for this team or the next he will have value every year he is healthy to get back some form of talent or draft capital. Sign him until the end of his career and move on whenever you get a good deal. Hes a 6'10 sharpshooter that has proven he can fit into a champion as a role player. How do you genuinely still not understand its an easy sell
With how horrible the team did around him this is the worst his trade value will ever be and we still had the belle of the ball at the trade deadline. If he actually contributes to winning in any capacity on this team the value will skyrocket.
